LIONS CRUISE TO WINS OVER MOOREFIELD AND TYGARTS VALLEY

HAMBLETON – The Tucker County Boys’ basketball team hosted Moorefield on Tuesday February 20th.  The Mt. Lions jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as they won the game 78-34.

The first quarter was controlled by Tucker County as they led after one quarter 23-5.  The Mt. Lions continued their dominance in the second as they outscored the Yellowjackets 24-10 in the quarter to put the halftime score 47-15.

Moorefield was unable to respond in the third as Tucker County built on their lead with a 20-10 advantage in the third to make the score 67-25 at the end of the third quarter.  The fourth quarter was also won by the Mt. Lions 11-9 to give Tucker County the victory by the final score of 78-34.

Maddox Anderson led the Mt. Lions in scoring with 13 points, 5 assists and Garrett Wilfong added 12 points.  Ethan Rosenau had 11 points for Tucker County and Owen Knotts chipped in with 10 points.  Ashton Lycliter also had 10 points, 11 rebounds and Trevon Bonner added 8 points in the win for the Mt. Lions.  The Tucker County JV team also won 72-35.  The Tucker County senior basketball support staff, players and cheerleaders were honored before the game.  Congrats: Ethan Rosenau, Ashton Lycliter, Owen Knotts, Maddox Anderson, Justin Robeson, Kobe Bever, Jayden Moore, Laney Burns, Brylee Wetzel, Jacie Pennington and Caitlyn McCrum.

MILL CREEK – The Mt. Lions traveled to Tygarts Valley on Friday February 23rd for the last game of the regular season.  Tucker County built a lead in the first quarter and cruised to a 76-36 road victory.

The Mt. Lions came out strong to start the game as they led after one quarter 21-4.  Tucker County would also control the second quarter 16-9 to extend the Tucker County lead at the half 37-13.

The visiting Mt. Lions would dominate the third quarter as they outscored the Bulldogs 22-4 in the third to make the score 59-17 after three.  Tygarts Valley would win the fourth quarter as they edged the Mt. Lions 19-17, but Tucker County got the win by the score of 76-36.

The Mt. Lions were led in scoring by Ashton Lycliter with 15 points, 16 rebounds and Owen Knotts added 13 points, 13 rebounds.  Garrett Wilfong had 12 points and Trevon Bonner chipped in with 10 points in the Tucker County win.  Ethan Rosenau dished out a team high 7 assists for the Mt. Lions.  The Tucker County JV team also won at Tygarts Valley 80-35.  The Mt. Lions JV team also played Saturday at Petersburg and picked up a win over Jefferson 60-48.  This win gave the Tucker County JV team an undefeated season at 19-0.  

Tucker County(18-3) will play in the Sectional Championship on Thursday February 29th at Keyser High School against East Hardy at 7pm.  The winner of the Sectional Final will host the Regional Co-Final on March 5th.  The loser of the Sectional Final will travel to the Section 2 winner on March 5th.  For more info go to TuckerCountySports.Com.
