LIONS FALL TO EAST HARDY, WIN AT MOUNTAIN RIDGE, MD

HAMBLETON – The Tucker County Boys’ Basketball team hosted Sectional and PVC Rival East Hardy for a game on Tuesday December 12th.  The Mt. Lions build a double-digit lead in the fourth quarter, but the Cougars mounted a big comeback to take the road victory over Tucker County 59-55.

The first quarter was back and forth and highly competitive as both teams scored 16 points in the first quarter to make the score 16-16 after one quarter.  The Mt. Lions pulled away slightly as they outshot the Cougars 15-11 in the second to put the halftime score at 31-27 Tucker County. 

The third quarter would belong to the Mt. Lions as they outscored East Hardy 16-7 to build the Tucker County lead to 47-34 at the end of the third.  Tucker County continued to control the game at the start of the fourth quarter.  The Cougars, however, never gave up as they started to chip away at the Mt. Lions lead.  East Hardy would make 4 three-point baskets in the fourth to cut the lead down to 1 point with under a minute left to play.  Then a steal by the Cougars and a layup with a foul on Tucker County gave East Hardy a 2 point lead with under 30 seconds left in the game.  The Mt. Lions could not get a basket at the end and the visiting Cougars made their foul shots down the stretch to give East Hardy the 59-55 comeback victory.

Owen Knotts led the Mt. Lions with 18 points, 13 rebounds and Ethan Rosenau had 16 points, 8 rebounds for Tucker County in the loss.  Trevan Bonner added 11 points and Ashton Lycliter chipped in with 8 points, 10 rebounds for the Mt. Lions.  The Tucker County JV team got the win over East Hardy 63-46.

FROSTBURG, MD – The Mt. Lions traveled to Mountain Ridge, MD on Friday December 15th for a JV and varsity contest.  Tucker County jumped out to a big lead in the first half and the Mt. Lions held off a comeback by the Miners to give the visiting Mt. Lions the 60-50 road win.

Tucker County exploded to start the game to lead the homestanding Miners 19-8 after one quarter.  The second quarter would belong to the Mt. Lions as well as Tucker County outscored Mountain Ridge 15-9 in the second to give the Mt. Lions the lead at the half 34-17.

In the third quarter the Miners fought back to take the quarter slightly 19-17 to make the score 51-36 Tucker County after three quarters of play.  Mountain Ridge continued to fight back in the fourth quarter as they outpaced the Mt. Lions 14-9, but that was not enough as Tucker County held on for the win by the final score of 60-50.

Trevan Bonner led Tucker County with 21 points and Ethan Rosenau added 20 points for the Mt. Lions in the win.  The Tucker County JV team picked up the win over Mountain Ridge also by the score of 49-27.

Tucker County(2-2) will host Elkins tonight Wednesday December 20th and then they will host Tygarts Valley Friday December 22nd.  For more info go to TuckerCountySports.Com.
