GLENVILLE – The Tucker County Boys’ Basketball team traveled Gilmer County on Wednesday February 2nd. The Mt. Lions used a big fourth quarter to pull away from Gilmer County for a 45-31 victory on the road.
The first quarter was even as Tucker County held an 11-9 edge over the Titans after one quarter. The Mt. Lions would then outscore slightly 9-8 in the second quarter to make the halftime score 20-17 Tucker County.
Gilmer County tried to respond in the third quarter as the home team edged Tucker County 7-6 in the period to put the score at 26-24 Mt. Lions after three quarters. Tucker County then pulled away in the fourth quarter as they outpaced Gilmer County 19-7 in the final quarter to take the road victory by the final score of 45-31
Haden Wamsley led Tucker County with 11 points and Aaron Quattro added 9 points for the Mt. Lions in the win. Maddox Anderson added 8 points and Zach Long had 7 points for Tucker County. The Tucker County JV team also picked up the win 63-29.
PETERSBURG – The Mt. Lions traveled to Petersburg on Friday February 4th. Tucker County jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter and never looked back as they picked up the win by the final score of 67-35.
The Mt. Lions controlled the first quarter as they exploded for a 21-8 lead over Petersburg after one quarter. The Vikings responded in the second quarter as they outscored Tucker County 12-11 in the second to make the halftime score 32-20.
The Mt. Lions would then control the third quarter as they edged Petersburg 12-10 to push the Tucker County lead to 44-30 after three quarters. The Mt. Lions then took full control pf the game in the fourth quarter as Tucker County outscored the Vikings 23-5 to give them the big 67-35 road win.
Levi Bennett led Tucker County with 15 points and Aaron Quattro added 13 points for the Mt. Lions. Maddox Anderson also had 12 points and Owen Knotts led Tucker County with 10 rebounds and 5 blocks in the win. The Mt. Lions JV team also picked up the win by the score of 63-38.
Tucker County (13-2) will return to action on Friday February 11th at home against Pocahontas County with the JV game starting at 5:45pm. The Mt. Lions will then host Preston on Monday February 14th. For more info go to TuckerCountySports.Com.
