Local boys win TCYF basketball tournament

Tucker County Youth Football recently hosted a youth middle school basketball tournament as a fundraiser. Youth from sixth, seventh and eighth grades from Petersburg, Moorefield, Northern Garrett, Grafton, Tygarts Valley, Belington, Elkins and Tucker County met at Tucker Valley to compete against other teams in their grades in a double elimination basketball tournament.

Games were held each evening with the winners moving on to the next round. With six teams still playing and a total of 19 games played Championship games

were held. Winning the sixth grade title was Northern Garrett, seventh grade Champions were from Moorefield and a local team won the eighth grade Division.

Photo back to front left to right, Coach Chuck Marks, Preston Wolfe, Clay Wolfe, Alec Cummings, Ben Cromer, Coach Nick Wolfe, Jeffrey Snyder, Owen Poling, Will White and Trenton Chevalier. Most Valuable players were Clay Wolfe and Ben Cromer.

Local teams name is MVP’s. They will play again in a tournament in Elkins.

A Northern coach is quoted saying “Thanks again for your hospitality. We enjoyed playing with you guys. We were very impressed and look forward to following your kids in the future.”

Referees and concession stand workers helped to make this tournament a success.
