The Tucker County Lady Mt. Lions had another busy week of basketball. They began the week with an unsuspected upset loss to the Pendleton County Wildcats. Due to illness and injury, the Mt. Lions were not at full strength in the contest and fell 55-52. Tucker would get back to their winning ways as they played host to the Lady Bulldogs of Tygarts Valley. Tucker, who was still playing shorthanded, would get off to a slow start trailing 8-7 after the first quarter. The Lady Mt. Lions would get it going before the half and pull ahead 24-20. Tucker would outscore Tygarts Valley by 10 points in the third period to push the lead out to 14 points, 40-26. Tucker would put the senior night victory to bed in the final period and take the win 58-40.

The Lady Mt. Lions finished their week with a trip to Petersburg High School where school history was potentially made, as we are still waiting for verification at this time. Senior Raven Matthews dropped 41 points in the contest which is pending as the most ever scored in a single game in a boy’s or girl’s history. The game itself was tightly contested as Tucker led 19-15 at the end of the first quarter. Tucker would have a big second quarter and hold Petersburg to 8 points scored, to make the lead 34-23 at the half. Petersburg would begin to mount a comeback in the third quarter, but Tucker was still on top 51-37. The Lady Vikings second half comeback wasn’t enough to overcome Matthews’ big night and Tucker would take the win back home 65-55.
