Mountain Lion Boys Fall At Southern And Win Big At Tygarts Valley

OAKLAND, MD – Tucker County made the trip to Southern, MD on Wednesday Jan 15th and ran into a hot Rams team who hit 8 three point baskets in the first half and knocked off the Mt. Lions 83-70.

The Mt. Lions ran out to a quick 14-4 lead in the early part of the first quarter, but Southern fought back with a 20-6 run to end the quarter to get the lead after one 24-20. The hot shooting would continue for the Rams in the second quarter as they extended the lead to 9 points at the half 50-41. Tucker County fought back in the second half, but Southern would keep the pace going in the third as the score remained a 9 point game after three 65-56. The Mt. Lions got the lead down to 6 points in the second half, but they were unable to complete the comeback as Southern made 11 three point baskets in the game to pick up the win 83-70.

Mitchell Mason led Tucker County with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Austin Zirk added 16 points and Ian Nichols finished with 14 points and 9 rebounds for Tucker County. The JV fell in their contest 48-34.

MILL CREEK – The Mt. Lions finished the week with a trip to Tygarts Valley on Friday Jan 17th. Tucker County jumped out to a big lead early and never looked back to get a 68-40 victory.

The first quarter belonged to the Mt. Lions as they raced out to a 22-9 lead after one. The visiting Tucker County team held the Bulldogs to 7 points in the second quarter to take a commanding 42-16 lead at the half. Tygarts Valley fought back in the third quarter as they outscored the Mt. Lions 17-12 in the third to make the score 54-33 at the end of the third. However, Tucker County put the game away in the fourth quarter as they outscored the Bulldogs 14-7 in the fourth to pick up the road victory 68-40.

Mitchell Mason led the Mt. Lions with 18 points and 6 rebounds. Austin Zirk added 17 points and Ian Nichols finished with 10 points and 8 rebounds for Tucker County. The Mt. Lions JV team won also 60-44.
