HAMBLETON – The Tucker County Boys’ Basketball team opened the season at home last Tuesday December 9th against Pocahontas County. The Mt. Lions shot the ball extremely well and ran away from the Warriors for a convincing 95-56 win.
The home team came out strong to outscore Pocahontas County 20-9 after one quarter of play. Pocahontas fought back in the second quarter to outpace the Mt. Lions 24-23 in the second quarter to trim the Tucker County lead to 43-33 at the half.
The third quarter would belong to the Mt. Lions as they scored 31 points in the period and held the Warriors to 11 points to take a commanding 75-44 advantage after three quarters. Pocahontas County only managed 12 more points in the fourth and Tucker County added another 20 points in the final period to cruise to the season opening victory at home 95-56.
Marcus Mason came off the bench to drain 7 three point baskets and lead the Mt. Lions in scoring with 23 points. Seth Evans added 20 points for Tucker County and Derek Zirk finished with 11 points. Owen Evans pulled down a team high 10 rebounds and added 10 points for the Mt. Lions, while Landon Dillard dished out 6 assists in the win.
