PARSONS – Tucker County continued their dominance last Friday against Tygarts Valley and Seth Underwood rushed for 141 yards as the Mt. Lions shutout the Vikings with a 49-0 win.
Tygarts Valley started the game with the ball first and was held to just 3 plays and had to punt the ball back to Tucker County. The Mt. Lions took over in good field position on their own 48 yard line. Tucker County put together a 7 play 52 yard drive that was kept alive on a 29 yard run pass from Seth Underwood to Zach Armstrong on 3rd down and 9. The drive was finished off by a 5 yard touchdown run by Armstrong with 7:53 left in the first quarter. The PAT conversion was no good and Tucker County led early 6-0.
The Bulldogs moved the ball on their next drive but was forced to punt on a 4th down and 6 at the Mt. Lions 42 yard line. Tucker County then blocked the punt but the punter picked up the ball and ran the ball for a first down to continue the Tygarts Valley drive. The Bulldogs could not continue the drive after that as they turned the ball over on downs 4 plays later on a failed 4th down and 5 and the Mt. Lions took over on their own 25 yard line. Tucker County put together a 4 play drive at the beginning of the second quarter that covered 75 yards and was capped by a 61 yard touchdown run by Underwood with 11:13 left in the first half. Underwood completed a pass to Spencer Pennington to covert the 2 points and make the score 14-0.
Tygarts Valley was forced to punt once again on their next drive. Tucker County was unable to get anything going with their next possession after a host of penalties and they punted the ball back to the Bulldogs. Daniel Kisamore then kicked a 42 yard punt to pin Tygarts Valley back to their own 5 yard line. Tygarts Valley then was forced to punt the ball back to the Mt. Lions out of their own end zone. Dusty Conrad then took the punt and returned it all the way down to the Bulldogs 3 yard line. Underwood would then get into the end zone once again 3 plays later with a 4 yard touchdown run. Michael Callaway added the extra point kick to build the lead to 21-0 with 52 seconds left in the half. Tygarts Valley was forced to punt once again and once again the punt was blocked by Tucker County. The first half would come to an end with the score 21-0 Mt. Lions.
The third quarter started with both teams exchanging punts. Tucker County then took over on their own 46 yard line and put together a 4 play 54 yard drive capped as Underwood raced 37 yards for his 3rd touchdown of the game with 5:49 left in the third. The extra point kick was good and the score was 28-0 Mt. Lions. Another punt was blocked by Tucker County, but the Mt. Lions fumbled the ball back to the Tygarts Valley. The Bulldogs were unable to get anything going on offense and fumbled the ball back to Tucker County on their own 40. Then with 47 seconds left in the third quarter Armstrong scored from 16 yards out to add to the Mt. Lions lead and the good extra point kick made the score 35-0.
Tucker County added a 54 yard punt return for a touchdown by Chris Freeman and a 10 yard touchdown run by reserve quarterback Daniel Kisamore in the fourth quarter to bring the final score to 49-0.
Seth Underwood finished with 12 carries for 141 yards rushing and 3 touchdowns and 3-5 passing for 35 yards in the air. Zach Armstrong rushed for 2 touchdowns and 75 yards on 13 carries, while Daniel Kisamore finished with 6 carries for 51 yards and a touchdown. The Tucker County defense held Tygarts Valley to just 62 total yards and the Mt. Lions ended the game with 292 yards total offense.
