Mt. Lions fall at Pendleton then get win over Pocahontas County

FRANKLIN – The Tucker County Boys’ Basketball team traveled to Pendleton County on Tuesday December 17th. The Mt. Lions played well, but Pendleton County pulled away late to get the victory 36-28.
The first quarter was dominated by defense as both teams struggled to score as Pendleton County had a 6-1 lead after one quarter of play. Tucker County found their offense in the second quarter as they outscored the Wildcats 14-7 to take a 15-13 lead into the locker room at the halftime intermission.
The homestanding Wildcats responded in the third as they outshot the Mt. Lions 11-4 to give Pendleton County the 24-19 lead after three quarters. The final quarter was won by the Wildcats 12-9 to make the final score 36-28 Pendleton County.
Holden Young and Trey Key led Tucker County in scoring with 8 points each.
HAMBLETON – The Mt. Lions returned to action on Friday December 20th for a home game against Pocahontas County. Tucker County dominated the second quarter to pick up their first victory of the season by the final score of 41-32.
The first quarter went back and forth as Tucker County held a slim 8-7 lead after one quarter of play. The Mt. Lions then pulled away in the second quarter as they outscored the Warriors 8-3 in the second to take a 16-10 lead at the half. Tucker County then dominated the third quarter with a 16-9 advantage to make the score 32-20 after three quarters. Pocahontas County fought back late in the fourth quarter, but the Mt. Lions got the victory by the final score of 41-32.
Wyatt Betler led Tucker County with 17 points, 10 rebounds and Zach Colebank added 7 points, 4 rebounds. Rudy Pennington added 8 rebounds for the Mt. Lions in the win.
Tucker County (1-3) will return to action on Friday December 27th at Notre Dame. The Mt. Lions will then host Petersburg for a game on Monday December 30th. For more info go to TuckerCountySports.Com.
