HAMBLETON – The Tucker County Boys’ Basketball team hosted Gilmer County for the Regional Championship last Thursday March 9th. The visiting Titans came out ready to play as they raced to an early 16-0 lead and took home the victory over Tucker County 61-40.
The first quarter was dominated by Gilmer County as they outscored the Mt. Lions 17-8 in the first quarter to take the advantage after one. Tucker County continued to struggle on offense in the second quarter as the Titans outpaced the Mt. Lions 18-11 in the second quarter to build the halftime lead to 35-19 Gilmer County.
Tucker County showed some fight in the third quarter as they cut the Gilmer County deficit 12 points, but the visitors raced the lead back up to outscore Tucker County 15-14 in the third to make the score 50-33 after three. Gilmer County would then close out the game in the fourth quarter with a 11-7 advantage to push the final score to 61-40 Gilmer County. The win by Gilmer County advanced them to the State Tournament next week in Charleston. The Titans earned the #5 seed and will face #4 Notre Dame on Wednesday March 15th at 9pm at the Charleston Civic Center.
Ethan Crosten led Tucker County with 11 points, 4 rebounds and Jakob Cousin 10 points, 5 rebounds. Corrick Ambrose added 8 points for the Mt, Lions in the loss.
