PARSONS – Tucker County hosted Tygarts Valley for the first home game of the season on Friday September 6th. The Mt. Lions scored first, but the visiting Bulldogs scored 32 unanswered to take the game by the final score of 32-8.
The Bulldogs won the coin toss, but they deferred their option to the second half. This would give Tucker County the ball to start the game. The Mt. Lions received the opening kick and went to work on offense. Tucker County drove the ball down to the Tygarts Valley 35 yard line, but the drive stalled after a failed fourth down play. The Bulldogs could not move the ball on offense as their first possession ended with 3 plays and a punt. Both teams struggled to maintain drives on offense through the rest of the first quarter as the score remained 0-0 after one quarter of play.
The second quarter started with the Mt. Lions on offense and the home team capped off a 7 play 42 yard drive on a 3 yard touchdown run by quarterback Liam Hood. The 2 point conversion was good on another Hood run to make the score 8-0 Tucker County with 8:48 left in the second quarter. The offense continued to struggle for Tygarts Valley until their second possession of the second quarter as they took the ball deep into Mt. Lions territory. The Bulldogs would then score with 1:08 left in the first half on a 9 yard touchdown run. The 2 point conversion failed by Tygarts Valley to make the halftime score 8-6 Tucker County.
The third quarter started with the Tucker County defense forcing a Tygarts Valley punt and the Mt. Lions offense went to work. Tucker County marched the ball to the Tygarts Valley red zone after a big 32 yard pass play from Hood to Hunter Collar put the ball to the Bulldog 19 yard line. A fumble by the Mt. Lions on the next play gave Tygarts Valley the ball back and ended the Tucker County drive with 8:20 left in the third. The Bulldogs offense then went to work as they put together a long drive that was highlighted by a 4th down and 10 conversion on a run play. Tygarts Valley would then score on a 12 yard touchdown run with 4:51 left in the third. The 2 point conversion failed to give the Bulldogs the lead 12-8. The Tygarts Valley defense then stepped up as they intercepted a Tucker County pass by Hood and they returned it to the Mt. Lions 1 yard line. Then one play later Tygarts Valley score on a 1 yard touchdown run. The PAT kick failed to make the score 18-8 with 14 seconds left in the third quarter. The Mt. Lions offense showed some life in the fourth quarter as Hood connected with Collar again on a 63 yard pass play. However, the drive stalled out to give Tygarts Valley back the ball. Tucker County got on last chance to get back into the game when the Bulldogs fumbled the ball and the Mt. Lions recovered the ball with 7:40 left in the game. Tucker County could not take advantage as the offense could not sustain the drive. Tygarts Valley then added a score with 5:29 left in the game on a 60 yard touchdown run. The PAT kick was good to push the Bulldogs lead to 25-8. A Tucker County fumble on the ensuing kickoff was recovered by Tygarts Valley. The visitors then scored again on a 37 yard pass play to make the score 32-8 with 5:17 left in the fourth. The game would end with Tygarts Valley on top by the final score of 32-8.

Liam Hood led Tucker County with 13 of 28 passing for 186 yards and Hood also added 21 carries for 31 yards rushing. Hunter Collar pulled down 3 receptions for 83 yards receiving and Gus Mullennex added 4 catches for 46 yards receiving for the Mt. Lions in the loss. Tygarts Valley was led by Caden Boggs with 21 carries for 90 yards rushing. Tygarts Valley outgained Tucker County in total offense 279-230. This was just the 3rd time Tygarts Valley has defeated Tucker County in the 20 overall meetings. The last time the Bulldogs beat the Mt. Lions was 2005.
