BAKER – The Tucker County Football team traveled to East Hardy on Friday October 11th. The Mt. Lions struggled on offense and the homestanding Cougars got the victory by the final score of 46-14.
Tucker County got the ball to start the game as they started their drive from the Mt. Lions 26 yard line. East Hardy didn’t allow a first down and Tucker County had to punt the ball away to the Cougars. East Hardy took over at their own 35 yard line and went to work. The Cougars then put together a drive that covered 65 yards on 6 plays and the drive was capped off on a 12 yard touchdown pass. The extra point kick was blocked to make the score 6-0 East Hardy with 8:31 left in the first quarter. The Mt. Lions started at their 35 yard line on offense. East Hardy then stepped in front of a William McCallister pass for an interception. The Cougars player returned the interception down to the 1 yard line and then fumbled the ball into the endzone for a touchback. This gave Tucker County the ball back at the Mt. Lions 20 yard line. The Mt. Lions then were forced to punt again as they failed to move the ball. I good punt by Tucker County put the ball down to the Cougars 28. East Hardy then put together a 7 play drive that was finished off on a 49 yard touchdown pass on a 4th down play with 2:53 left in the first quarter. The PAT kick was blocked again to push the East Hardy lead to 12-0 at the end of the first quarter.
East Hardy got on the scoreboard again early in the second quarter on a 25 yard touchdown run. The PAT kick was good to make the score 19-0 Cougars with 11:21 left in the second quarter. An interception by East Hardy on Tucker County’s next possession gave the Cougars the ball back at the Mt. Lions 27. Then 3 plays later East Hardy scored on a 9 yard touchdown run. The PAT kick was good to push the Cougars lead to 26-0 with 8:24 left in the second quarter. Tucker County’s offense failed to move the ball again on offense and the Mt. Lions punted the ball back to East Hardy. The home team then would strike again on a 24 yard touchdown pass with 3:36 left in the second. The PAT kick was good to make the score 33-0 East Hardy. The night then got worse for the Mt. Lions as the Cougars recovered a questionable fumble and returned it 34 yards for a touchdown. The extra point kick was good to put the score to 40-0 East Hardy with 1:50 left in the first half. The next possession for Tucker County resulted in another interception to end the second quarter with the score 40-0 East Hardy.
The Cougars received the kick to start the third quarter. Tucker County then got on the scoreboard as a bad snap from the East Hardy offense went through the back of the endzone for a safety. This made the score 40-2 with 6:04 left in the third quarter. The Mt. Lions then fumbled the ensuing kickoff and East Hardy recovered the ball at the Tucker County 42. Then 2 plays later the Cougars scored on a 49 yard touchdown pass. The PAT failed to put the score to 46-2 with 5:01 left in the third. The score remained 46-2 at the end of the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter Tucker County scored on a 1 yard touchdown run by Hunter Collar. The 2 point conversion pass failed to make the score 46-8 East Hardy with 4:04 left in the fourth. Tucker County’s Jeremy Liller then intercepted a Cougars pass and then returned it to the East Hardy 20 yard line. Then 3 plays later Hunter Collar scored on a 11 yard touchdown run. The PAT failed to make the score 46-14 with 21 seconds left in the game. East Hardy then ran out the clock to end the game with the final score of 46-14 East Hardy.
