The Mt. Lions golf team hosted a five-team, 9-hole match on Monday at Canaan Valley Resort, facing off against several regional opponents, including the top-ranked Class AA team in the state, the Petersburg Vikings.
While Petersburg ultimately claimed first place, the Mt. Lions held their own in a strong showing, finishing in a tie for second place with Pendleton County.
Juniors Nate Davis and Drew Simmons led the way individually for Tucker County, both shooting a solid 39 to tie for second place overall. Freshman Collin Pitzer posted his best 9-hole round of the season with a 48, contributing significantly to the team’s total score of 126.
The performance marks a strong momentum boost as the Mt. Lions prepare for the Class A Region II Tournament, set to be held this coming Monday, once again on their home course at Canaan Valley. A top finish there would secure the team a spot in the State Championship rounds at Oglebay Resort in Wheeling.
