The Tucker County Mountain Lions Junior Varsity football team kicked off their season in winning fashion last week with a hard-fought 22-16 victory over the visiting Southern Rams.
In their first game of the year, the young Mt. Lions showed promise and potential in front of a supportive home crowd. The offense was sparked by an impressive performance from freshman Branson Hyre, who made his mark early as a key playmaker. Hyre’s contributions helped set the tone for Tucker County’s offensive attack throughout the game.
On the defensive side of the ball, freshman Johnathon Tuttle anchored the unit with a team-high number of tackles. Tuttle’s physical play and relentless pursuit of the ball carrier were instrumental in slowing down Southern’s offensive efforts.
The game remained close from start to finish, with both teams trading scores and defensive stops. But in the final minutes, Tucker’s defense held strong, securing the win and setting a confident tone for the rest of the season.
