The game went back and forth in the first quarter and the Mt. Lions held a slim 16-15 lead after the first quarter. In the second quarter both teams played even as the Warriors outscored Tucker County in the quarter 22-21 to tie the game at 37 at the half.
The Mt. Lions built a lead in the third quarter as they outscored the host Warriors 16-11 to make the score 53-48 Tucker County after three. Tucker County then sealed the victory in the fourth quarter as they outpaced Pocahontas County 20-15 to get the road victory 73-63.
Seth Evans led Tucker County with 23 points and Derek Zirk finished with 22 points, 8 rebounds, 6 steals, 5 assists. Landon Dillard added 14 points and Owen Evans had 3 block shots. The Mt. Lions JV team got the win also 79-42.
HAMBLETON – The Mt. Lions hosted Pendleton County on Thursday January 22nd for another PVC conference game. The Mt. Lions exploded in the second quarter and never looked back to capture the 67-39 win at home.
Tucker County scored 19 points in the first quarter and held the Wildcats to 11 points to lead after one 19-11. The defense for Tucker County held the visitors to just 4 points in the second quarter to take a commanding 39-15 advantage at the half. In the third quarter the Mt. Lions dominated the scoreboard again as they led after three 58-25. Pendleton County fought back in the fourth quarter, but the Tucker County captured the home win 67-39.
Derek Zirk led Tucker County with 16 points, 11 rebounds and Seth Evans finished with 14 points, 6 rebounds. Ethan Crosten dished out a team high 5 assists and Wes Knotts had 2 block shots for the Mt. Lions in the win. The Tucker County JV team picked up the win 40-24.
MORGANTOWN – Tucker County ended the busy week at Trinity Christian on Saturday January 24th. The Mt. Lions built a 14 point lead and overcome a late rally by the home Warriors to pick up the win 60-54.
The first quarter started with both teams exchanging baskets, Tucker County stepped up the defense late in the quarter to take the lead after one 19-13. The visiting Mt. Lions came out strong in the second quarter as the defense held Trinity to just 6 points in the quarter and Tucker County led at the half 34-19.
Trinity had the slight edge in the third quarter, but the Mt. Lions still had the 50-36 lead after three. The Warriors did not give up as they fought back in the fourth quarter and outpaced Tucker County 18-10. The Mt. Lions stepped up late and sealed the victory with some key free throws and defensive stops to get the road victory 60-54.
Seth Evans led Tucker County with 20 points and Derek Zirk finished with 15 points, 9 rebounds. Landon Dillard added 8 points, 4 assist for the Mt. Lions. Tucker County also got 7 steals from Mikhail Lewis and 3 block shots from Owen Evans in the win. The Mt. Lions JV team also won their contest 56-50.
