DUMORE – The Tucker County Boys’ Basketball team traveled to Pocahontas County on Wednesday February 12th. Tucker County held on for their third victory of the season by the final score of 43-37.
The first quarter was even as the score remained tied after one period at 9-9. The Warriors held a slight advantage in the second quarter as Pocahontas County edged the Mt. Lions 9-8 in the second to make the halftime score 18-17 Pocahontas County.
Tucker County then pulled ahead in the third as they outscored the home team 11-5 to put the score to 28-23 Mt. Lions after three. Tucker County would control the fourth quarter 15-14 to prevent the Warriors comeback as the Mt. Lions got the road win by the final score of 43-37.
Zach Colebank led Tucker County with 10 points while Wyatt Betler and Rudy Pennington added 9 points each in the Mt. Lions victory. The Tucker County JV team got the win in the first game by the score of 62-34.
KEYSER – The Mt. Lions went on the road to Class “AA” Keyser on Friday February 14th. Tucker County struggled to score and Keyser cruised to a 57-23 win.
The first quarter was controlled by Keyser as they exploded to a 18-4 lead after one quarter of play. The struggles on offense continued for the Mt. Lions as the Golden Tornados outscored Tucker County 14-5 in the second quarter to give Keyser a commanding 32-9 lead at the halftime break.
The home team won the third quarter 14-5 to make the score 46-14 Keyser after three quarters. The Golden Tornados won the fourth quarter 11-7 to make the final score 57-23 Keyser.
Tucker County was led in scoring by Zach Colebank with 6 points and Rudy Pennington added 4 points in the loss for the Mt. Lions. The Tucker County JV team fell in their contest 62-34.
CLARKSBURG – Tucker County traveled to RCB High School to on the afternoon of Saturday February 15th to play Buffalo for a Varsity only game in the WVHIT event. The Mt. Lions trailed big early, but Tucker County could not complete the comeback as Buffalo won the game by the final score of 56-48.
The Mt. Lions trailed 18-0 before battling back as they trailed to Buffalo after one quarter 20-7. The second quarter was won by Tucker County as they outscored Buffalo 14-8 to make the halftime score 28-21 Buffalo.
The third quarter was won by Buffalo as they outpaced Tucker County 18-12 to make the score 46-33 after three quarters of play. The Mt. Lions responded in the fourth quarter as they edged Buffalo 15-10, but Tucker County could not complete the comeback as they fell in the contest by the final score of 56-58.
Tucker County was led in scoring by Wyatt Betler with 16 points and Zach Colebank added 11 points in the loss for the Mt. Lions.
Tucker County (3-16) will return to action Thursday February 20th at Trinity. The Mt. Lions will then host Tygarts Valley on Monday February 24th. For more info go to TuckerCountySports.Com.
