On October 25th at the Madison Civic Center in Madison, WV, Wild Bill Shahan fought Jon Hill for the Universal Boxing Federation Northeast North American Championship and West Virginia Heavyweight State Championship belts. Shahan was supposed to be fighting Warren Browning, but due to a broken hand a week before the fight, Jon Hill stepped in to replace him. Hill was a heavy puncher and 5 of his 6 wins were by way of knockout. He was 6-3 going into the fight. Shahan was training to fight a right handed fighter, only to have things changed when Jon Hill was the opponent. Hill was a leftie. Both Hill and Browning were the promoter’s fighters.
The fight was scheduled for 10 rounds, only to be stopped in the 8th by the referee. This fight was a back and forth heavy punching by both Shahan and Hill. Both of these fighters are known to either win by knockout and lose by knockout. Shahan and Hill were fighting and determined to come out on top with both fighters landing power punches. The fans were up the entire fight watching an action packed war between these two fighters. Shahan knocked Hill down twice in the 5th round and once in the 8th and a standing 8 count in the 8th as well. The referee in this round had stopped the fight. Shahan was never knocked down or given a standing 8-count in this fight. The victory moved Shahan to 10 wins with 9 coming by way of knockout and 5 losses. Shahan is now the WV Heavyweight State Champion and also the UBF Northeast North American Champion. Shahan is the 1st ever to win the WV Heavyweight State Champion and UBF Northeast North American Champion from Tucker County.
