The Tucker County Little League Baseball season came to an end for the 11–12-year-old squad this past weekend in Huttonsville. The 9–10-year-old squad are still battling for a chance at a District Title and a chance to play in the State Tournament.
The 11–12-year-old team lost to Pocahontas Friday night as the starting pitcher for the opposing team tossed a no hitter against Tucker on his way to a 10-0 victory. Tucker was down but not out, with a chance to come from the loser’s bracket, but standing in their way was Summersville on Saturday afternoon. Tucker would again struggle at the plate and failed to register a hit for the second game in a row. Tucker’s pitching and field play was good enough to win, but the lack of balls put into play would be their ultimate demise falling 14-0 against Summersville. With the loss comes an end to the season for this group of youngsters.
The 9–10-year-old group started tournament play also on Friday in Huttonsville first taking on Elkins. Tucker would lead most of the contest, but Elkins made a big push late forcing extra innings to determine the outcome. Elkins would complete the comeback over Tucker and take the win 19-7. Tucker would be forced to come out of the loser’s bracket, taking on the host team in Tygarts Valley. Blaine Montoney would take the mound for Tucker and pitch a complete game, just one batter hit by pitch shy of a perfect game. Tucker pounded the ball on offense raking up 11 runs to Tygarts Valley’s 1 run keeping the young Mt. Lions season alive. Tucker will now play Braxton County on Friday, June 27th at 8:00pm at Tygarts Valley’s fields in Huttonsville.
