The West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission (WVSSAC) has revealed the Class A winners of The Health Plan Champions Cup, an annual award that honors the top-performing high schools for combined excellence in athletics and academics.
The Health Plan Champions Cup recognizes the top boys’ and girls’ athletic programs across all four WVSSAC classifications. Schools earn points through their teams’ performances in state championship events across multiple sports, along with academic achievement, including graduation rates.
Pendleton County claimed the top spot in the Class A girls’ standings with a total of 486 points. Greenbrier West followed in second with 388.5 points.
Tucker County earned third place with 385 points, bolstered by a solid showing in several key sports. The Lady Mountain Lions’ success was highlighted by the girls’ basketball state tournament appearance, a fifth-place finish in cheer, and a regional final appearance in softball.
Cameron High School emerged as the Class A boys’ champion with 393.5 points, edging out Tucker County, who finished second with 390.5 points.
Tucker County’s runner-up finish was fueled by consistent performances across multiple seasons and sports, including a third consecutive state runner-up title in boys’ basketball, a semifinal appearance in football, and a seventh-place finish in cross country.
The Champions Cup continues to celebrate the dedication, talent, and academic commitment of student-athletes across West Virginia, recognizing schools that excel both on the field/court and in the classroom.
