TUCKER BOYS’ WIN SECTIONAL FINAL OVER EAST HARDY 49-43

HAMBLETON – The Mt. Lions hosted a first round Sectional game against Union on Monday February 26th.  

Tucker County jumped out to an early first quarter lead enroute to a 62-40 victory.

In the first quarter the Mt. Lions controlled the game with a 23-10 advantage after the period.  Union would then fight back in the second as they outscored Tucker County 12-7 to cut into the Mt. Lions lead to make the score 30-22 Tucker County at halftime.

The Mt. Lions responded in the third quarter as they surged to a 16-9 scoring edge to increase the Tucker County lead to 46-31 after three.  In the final quarter the Mt. Lions continued to score as they would outpace the Tigers 16-9 to make the final score of the contest 62-40 Tucker County.

The Mt. Lions were led in scoring by Ethan Rosenau with 22 points and Owen Knotts added 12 points, 10 rebounds.  Garrett Wilfong had 12 points, 9 rebounds and Trevon Bonner chipped in with 10 points in the Tucker County win.  Maddox Anderson dished out a team high 7 assists for the Mt. Lions in the win.

KEYSER – Tucker County traveled to Keyser High School on Thursday February 29th for the Sectional Championship against East Hardy.  The Mt. Lions built a big lead in the first half and then Tucker County fought off a Cougars comeback attempt to get the win by the final score of 49-43.

The Mt. Lions jumped ahead in the first quarter as they led after one quarter 16-11.  In the second quarter Tucker County continued to build on their lead as they outscored East Hardy 17-8 to put the halftime score at 33-19.

The Cougars started to fight back in the third quarter as they chipped away at the Mt. Lions lead as they outscored Tucker County 14-7 to make the score 40-33 Mt. Lions after three quarters.  The Cougars then continued to score in the fourth quarter as they got the score down to 40-39 with 3:08 left in the fourth.  Tucker County would keep the lead over East Hardy throughout as the Cougars got within 4 points on two different occasions at 42-38(2:36) and 45-41(0:48).  The Mt. Lions would make their foul shots down the stretch to hold on to win the game 49-43 and win the Sectional Championship.  

Trevan Bonner led Tucker County with 18 points and Ashton Lycliter added 12 points, 7 rebounds.  Garrett Wilfong pulled down a team high 9 rebounds for the Mt. Lions and Owen Knotts collected 8 rebounds for Tucker County.

 

Tucker County(20-3) was scheduled to play in the Regional Co-Final at home against Tygarts Valley on Tuesday March 5th.  The winner of that game will qualify for the WV Boys’ Basketball State Tournament March 13-16 in Charleston, WV.  For more info go to TuckerCountySports.Com.
