SHINNSTON – The Mt. Lions traveled to Lincoln on Wednesday March 27th to take on the Cougars in a single game. Tucker County fell in the contest by the final score of 10-2.
Lincoln got on the scoreboard in the first inning after a single, an error and a couple stolen bases. The Mt. Lions struggled to get the offense going and Tucker County had a tough time containing the Cougars on defense. Zach Colebank got the start for the Mt. Lions on the mound. Colebank allowed 1 hit and 5 runs over 2 innings and walking just one batter. Tucker County had 8 defensive errors while giving up 8 unearned runs on the night. Shane Humphrey, Corrick Ambrose, Easton Snyder and Colebank collected 1 hit each in the contest for the Mt. Lions. Colebank and Humphrey also recorded 1 RBI each for Tucker County in the loss.
MORGANTOWN – Tucker County traveled to Trinity Christian on Thursday March 28th to face off against the Warriors. The Mt. Lions bats came alive to claim the 17-5 victory.
Corrick Ambrose led the way for Tucker County at the plate as he collected 5 hits in the contest. Ambrose singled in the 1st inning, singled in the 2nd inning, doubled in the 4th inning, singled in the 5th and singled again in the 6th inning. The Ambrose single in the 1st inning drove in 1 run for Tucker County. The Mt. Lions plated 5 runs in the 5th inning which was led by Zach Colebank and Christian Purnell with 1 RBI each in the inning. Tucker County collected 20 hits in the contest as Ambrose, Colebank, Purnell, Shane Humphrey and Easton Snyder had multiple hits in the win. Cameron Wamsley earned the victory for Tucker County as he surrendered 2 runs on 3 hits over 4 innings. Wamsley collected 4 strikeouts, while Cole Rapp and Coleback entered the game form the bullpen to help close out the game.
MILL CREEK – The Mt. Lions traveled to Tygarts Valley on Friday March 29th to compete in a one game contest with the Bulldogs. Tucker County struggled with a tight strike zone and fell in the contest by the final score of 27-8.
The Mt. Lions fell behind early as Tygarts Valley scored 5 runs in the 1st inning. Tygarts Valley then exploded for 14 runs in the 3rd inning. Tucker County put up 4 runs in the 4th inning as Corrick Ambrose and Zach Colebank each had RBI’s in the inning. Ambrose got the start on the mound for Tucker County as he gave up 5 runs on 1 hit. Christian Purnell, Shane Humphrey, Liam Hood and Cole Rapp seen action at the pitching position in the loss for Tucker County. Colebank led the Mt. Lions in batting as he went 2 for 2 in the game. Tucker County ended the game with 11 hits compared to 9 hits for Tygarts Valley. The Bulldogs picked up the victory by the final score of 27-8.
RACHEL – Tucker County ended the busy week with a doubleheader at North Marion on Saturday March 30th. The Mt. Lions struggle to get runs in both contest as they fell 7-0 in Game 1 and 11-1 in Game 2.
Tucker County fell behind early in Game 1 and could not make a comeback. The Huskies got the scoring started in the 2nd inning and built on that lead throughout the game. The North Marion pitching controlled the game as Ken Satterfield for the Huskies went 7 innings and allowed zero runs, 4 hits and struck out 10 Mt. Lion batters. Cameron Wamsley got the start for Tucker County and he went 6 innings, allowing 7 hits, 7 runs and struck out 4 batters. Zach Colebank led the Mt. Lions on offense as he went 3 of 4 from the plate in Game 1. Tucker County fell in the Game 1 contest by the final score of 7-0.
In Game 2 the homestanding Huskies continued to hit the ball well. North Marion took the led in the 1st inning and never looked back. North Marion then scored 6 runs in the 4th inning to build on the lead. Zach Colebank took the mound for the Mt. Lions and went 3 innings allowing 5 hits, 4 runs. Corrick Ambrose and Liam Hood came in as pitching relief in the Game 2 contest. Alec Cummings and Ambrose collected 1 hit each to lead Tucker County in the loss. North Marion pitching controlled Game 2 as they struck out 11 Mt. Lion batters in the contest to get the 11-1 victory over Tucker County.
Tucker County will return to action Friday April 5th at Pendleton County for a 5pm start and then they will travel to Preston for a doubleheader on the afternoon of Saturday April 6th at 12pm and 2pm. For more info go to TuckerCountySports.Com.
