OAKLAND, MD – The Tucker County Boys’ Basketball team traveled to Southern Garrett for their season opener on Wednesday December 11th. The Mt. Lions struggled to score during the contest and took the loss by the final score of 55-17.
Southern came out firing in the first quarter as they outscored Tucker County 22-4 after one quarter. In the second quarter the homestanding Rams scored 19 points and held the Mt. Lions to 7 points to make the halftime score 41-11.
Southern outscored Tucker County 10-2 in the third quarter and the fourth quarter scoring was 4-4 to make the final score of the contest 55-17 Southern.
Rudy Pennington led Tucker County with 4 points and 8 rebounds.
HAMBLETON – The Mt. Lions returned to action on Saturday December 14th for their home opener against Class “AAA” Preston. Tucker County trailed by 11 points at halftime, but the Mt. Lions offense got cold and they fell in the contest by the final score of 73-35.
The first quarter was a battle as both teams traded baskets with neither team gaining an advantage as Preston held a slim 14-12 lead after one. The visiting Knights pulled away slightly in the second quarter as they outscored the Mt. Lions 22-13 to make the halftime score 36-25.
In the third quarter Preston started to pull away as their offense continued to roll and Tucker County struggled to make shots as the Knights outshot the home team 23-8 to push the score to 59-33 Preston after three quarters. Tucker County continued to struggle in the fourth and the reserve players finished out the contest and Preston picked up the victory by the final score of 73-35.
Wyatt Betler led Tucker County with 17 points, 6 rebounds and Trey Key added 6 points, 5 rebounds. Rudy Pennington collected 5 rebounds for the Mt. Lions in the loss.
