KINGWOOD – The Mt. Lions Boys’ Basketball team traveled to Preston on Saturday December 22nd for a matchup with the Class “AAA” Knights. Preston played well at home to capture the win over Tucker County by the final score of 65-51.
The Mt. Lions struggled to score in the first quarter as they trailed the Knights after one 11-6. Preston exploded in the second quarter as they outpaced Tucker County 21-11 to make the halftime score 32-17 Preston.
The third quarter was played even as both teams scored 15 in the period to give Preston the 47-32 advantage after three. Tucker County could not stage a comeback in the fourth as they outscored the Knights 19-18, but the Mt. Lions fell in the game by the final score of 65-51.
Corrick Ambrose led Tucker County with 22 points, 5 assists and Jeffrey Snyder added 15 points for the Mt. Lions in the loss. Wyatt Betler led Tucker County in rebounding with 7 boards.
KEYSER – Tucker County traveled to Keyser for an afternoon game on Friday December 28th. The Mt. Lions led throughout the game, but the Golden Tornado’s got the win in overtime by the final score of 77-75.
Tucker County got off to a good start as they led the game after one quarter of play 21-13. The Mt. Lions continued to make shots in the second quarter as they outpaced Keyser in quarter two 17-15 to make the score at the half 38-28 Tucker County.
The homestanding Golden Tornado’s cut into the Mt. Lions lead in the third as they outscored Tucker County 18-15 to put the score at 53-46 Tucker County after three quarters of play. Keyser then made a big push to get back into the game as the outshot Tucker County 21-4 in the fourth quarter to tie the game 67-67 and force overtime. Keyser then made some key buckets in overtime to outscore Tucker County 10-8 in the extra frame to give the home team the victory by the final score of 77-75.
Corrick Ambrose led all scorers with 28 points for Tucker County as Ambrose connected on 6 three point baskets. Jeffrey Snyder added 22 points for the Mt. Lions and Cameron Wamsley 13 points, 8 rebounds. Ambrose also added 7 assists in the loss for Tucker County.
Tucker County(0-5) will host Moorefield on Friday January 4th and then the Mt. Lions will travel to Bishop-Walsh, MD on Saturday January 5th for a varsity only contest at 6:45pm. For more info go to TuckerCountySports.Com.
