OAKLAND, MD – The Mt. Lions traveled to Southern, MD on Monday February 18th. Tucker County hung tough early, but the Rams pulled away for the 66-40 victory.
The first quarter was competitive as both teams traded baskets then Southern pulled away to take a 16-9 lead after one quarter of play. The Rams heated up in the second quarter and the Mt. Lions struggled to score. Southern would outscore Tucker County 19-11 in the second to make the score 35-20 Southern at the half.
The home team would add to the lead in the third as the Rams outpaced Tucker County 18-10 in the third to push the Southern lead to 53-30 after three periods. The final quarter would also be won by the Rams 13-10 as Southern picked up the win over the Mt. Lions by the final score of 66-40.
Jeffrey Snyder led Tucker County in scoring with 17 points and Corrick Ambrose added 14 points, 6 rebounds for the Mt. Lions in the loss.
HAMBLETON – Tucker County hosted Trinity Christian on Tuesday February 19th. The Mt. Lions battled the visiting Warriors early, but Trinity pulled away for a 70-44 road victory.
The first quarter was back and forth as the Warriors held a 20-12 lead after one period. Trinity stayed hot in the second quarter as they shot the ball well from outside as they outscored the Mt. Lions 20-12 in the second to make the halftime score 40-24 Trinity.
Tucker County tried to mount a comeback in the third, but the Warriors responded to win the third quarter 14-10 and extend the Trinity lead to 54-34 after three. The Warriors would win the final quarter as well 16-10 to give Trinity the victory by the final score of 70-44.
Jeffrey Snyder led Tucker County with 16 points and Corrick Ambrose added 10 points, 4 assists. Cameron Wamsley chipped in with 8 points, 6 rebounds for the Mt. Lions in the loss.
FRANKLIN – The Mt. Lions ended a busy week with a trip to Pendleton County on Thursday February 21st. In a close game throughout the night Pendleton County rallied in the fourth to pull out the close victory by the final score of 62-51.
In a close first quarter, the home standing Wildcats held a slim 16-15 lead after one. The game continued to be close in the second quarter and Tucker County edged Pendleton in the second 13-12 to make the halftime score 28-28.
Tucker County then built a lead in the third and outpaced the Wildcats 16-15 in the third to make the score 44-43 Tucker after three. Pendleton County responded late in the contest as they built a slim lead late and made their foul shots down the stretch to get the PVC conference victory over Tucker County by the final score of 62-51.
Corrick Ambrose led Tucker County with 21 points and Cameron Wamsley added 10 points for the Mt. Lions in the loss. Jeffrey Snyder and Wyatt Betler added 6 points each for Tucker County.
Tucker County(6-16) will scheduled to start Sectional Playoffs against Union at home on Monday February 25th. The winner of the game on Monday will play the winner of East Hardy/Paw Paw at higher seed tonight Wednesday February 27th at 7pm.
