HAMBLETON – The Mt. Lions outscored Moorefield 24-9 in the second quarter to break open the game and pick up the blowout win over the Yellowjackets 85-46 on Feb 10th.
In the first quarter Tucker County scored 19 points and had the lead after the opening quarter 19-11. The second quarter would display great defense by the Mt. Lions as they held Moorefield to just 9 points in the quarter and Tucker County exploded for 24 points to take a commanding 43-20 lead at the half.
Moorefield tried to respond in the third quarter, but Tucker County once again dominated the scoreboard 27-13 in the quarter to put the game into blowout mode as they led 70-33 after the third quarter. The reserve players finished the game for Tucker County and the Mt. Lions picked up the impressive win 85-46.
Austin Zirk paced the Mt. Lions with 23 points and Ian Nichols added 17 points, 10 rebounds. Mitchell Mason finished with 14 points and Derek Zirk had 11 points, 10 assists for Tucker County. The Mt. Lions JV team picked up the win also 64-34.
MOOREFIELD – Two nights after the Mt. Lions handed Moorefield a blowout loss Tucker County traveled down Corridor H to face off against their PVC rival again. The result turned out the same as the Mt. Lions got ahead early and never looked back as they cruised to the victory 64-43.
The first quarter belonged to Tucker County as they ran out to a 19-5 advantage after one. Moorefield fought back in the second quarter to cut into the Mt. Lions lead, but Tucker County would lead at the half 30-21.
Tucker County outscored the Yellowjackets 13-8 in the third quarter to increase their lead to 43-29 after three. The Mt. Lions put the game away in the fourth as they outpaced the home team 21-14 in the quarter to pick up the win on the road 64-43.
Ian Nichols led the Mt. Lions with 16 points and Austin Zirk finished with 13 points. Mitchell Mason added 12 points for Tucker County in the win. Due to the incoming winter storm the Varsity game start time was moved up and the JV game was not played.
Tucker County(13-2) was scheduled to host Pocahontas County on Monday Feb 17th and then they were scheduled to host Trinity on Tuesday Feb 18th. The Mt.
