MILL CREEK – The Mt. Lions traveled to Tygarts Valley for their first road game of the season last Friday September 5th. Tucker County created 4 turnovers in the game and turned a 27-0 halftime lead into a 40-8 victory over the home standing Bulldogs.
Tucker County won the coin toss and deferred their option to the second half. The Bulldogs then put together a 10 play drive that stalled and Tygarts Valley had to punt the ball to the Mt. Lions. Tucker County however was unable to pick up a first down and had to punt the ball back to the Bulldogs. Tygarts Valley’s next possession showed promise as well, but the Bulldogs missed a field goal at the beginning of the second quarter to keep the score at 0-0.
The offense then took off for the Mt. Lions as they marched the ball down the field on an 8 play 80 yard drive that was capped off with a 5 yard touchdown run by Kellen Dunn with 6:58 left in the first half. The extra point by Michael Callaway was good to give Tucker County the lead 7-0. The Bulldogs then fumbled the ball on their next possession and Eddie Kachmarek recovered to give the Mt. Lions the ball at the Tygarts Valley 26. Then just 5 plays later Callaway scored a touchdown on a 3 yard run with 3:38 left in the second quarter. The PAT kick was good to put Tucker County up 14-0. Tygarts Valley punted on their next possession and the Mt. Lions scored 2 plays later on a 58 yard pass play from quarterback Daniel Kisamore to Callaway. The extra point kick was good and with 52 seconds left in the second Tucker County led 21-0. The Mt. Lions defense was not done as Kisamore stepped in front of the Bulldogs pass to capture an interception for Tucker County giving the visitors the ball once again. Kisamore and Callaway then hooked up again with a 52 yard touchdown pass play with 17 seconds left in the first half. Callaway missed the extra point and the score at the half was Mt. Lions 27 Bulldogs 0.
Tucker County started the third quarter with the ball, but could not capitalize on a 12 play drive after 2 bad snaps resulted in negative yardage. Tygarts Valley took over the ball at their own 31 yard line. The Mt. Lions defense again stood their ground and the Bulldogs had to punt the ball away. Both teams then exchanged turnovers and with 34 seconds left in the third Tucker County got on the scoreboard again with a 2 yard touchdown run by Dunn. Callaway added the extra point to give the Mt. Lions a 34-0 lead. The bad night continued for Tygarts Valley on their next possession as they fumbled the ball and Tucker recovered for the 4th Bulldogs turnover in the contest. The Mt. Lions would get their final score of the game at the beginning of the fourth quarter on a Kisamore 8 yard touchdown run. Callaway added the extra point to make the score 40-0 Tucker with 11:28 left in the game.
The reserve players finished the game for Tucker County and the Bulldogs scored on a 21 yard run with 47 seconds left in the contest. Tygarts Valley converted the 2 point conversion to bring the score to 40-8. Tucker County then ran out the clock to pick up the 40-8 road victory.
Daniel Kisamore finished with 303 yards of total offense for the Mt. Lions, 7 of 13 passing for 188 yards and 115 yards rushing. Michael Callaway added 134 yards receiving on 5 receptions in the victory.
