PARSONS – The Mt. Lions Football team hosted Petersburg on Friday November 1st. Tucker County played good defense through the first quarter, but the visiting Vikings turned on the offense to take the victory by the final score of 43-0.
Petersburg received the kick to start the game. The Vikings drive started at their own 34 yard line. The Tucker County defense stepped up to force Petersburg to a 3 and out and a Vikings punt. Tucker County then took to the field on offense at their 25 yard line. The Mt.
Lions offense also struggled and they was forced to punt the ball back to the visiting team Petersburg. The next Vikings drive started near midfield and Petersburg drove the ball down to the Mt. Lions 33. The Vikings could not convert on a fourth down play which gave Tucker County the ball back with 5:59 left in the first quarter after a turnover on downs. The Mt. Lions once again failed to move the ball and was forced to punt. Petersburg would also struggle and the first quarter ended with the score tied 0-0.
In the second quarter the Vikings got on the scoreboard with 6:21 left in the first half on a 2 yard touchdown run. The 2 point conversion was good to give Petersburg the 8-0 lead. The Mt. Lions tried to answer on their next possession as they started at their own 31. Tucker County picked up one first down off an 18 yard pass play from Liam Hood to Hunter Collar.
The Mt. Lions could not sustain the drive and they were forced to punt the ball back to Petersburg. The Vikings next drive also failed to move the ball, and Petersburg punted the ball back to Tucker County with 3:15 left in the second. The Vikings offense then forced another punt. Petersburg then got into the endzone again with 21 seconds left in the second quarter on a 39 yard touchdown run on a reverse. The 2 point conversion was good to make the score 16-0 at the halftime intermission.
Tucker County got the ball to start the third quarter as they started the drive at their own 31. A penalty erased a first down play and a bad snap on the punt attempt gave the Vikings the ball at the Tucker County 19. Petersburg then scored on the first play on a 19 yard touchdown run to make the score 24-0 with 10:16 left in the third quarter. Tucker County then fumbled the ball back to Petersburg on their next drive at the Mt. Lions 33. The Vikings offense then went to work as they march 7 plays and the drive was capped off on a 4 yard touchdown run. The PAT kick was no good to push the Vikings lead to 30-0 with 7:19 left in the third quarter. The Mt. Lions moved the ball on offense, but they could not maintain the drive as they failed to convert on a fourth down play. Petersburg took over as the Tucker County 45 yard line with 5:09 left in the third. The Vikings then took the drive down the field on a 9 play scoring drive. Petersburg scored on a 5 yard touchdown run and the PAT kick was good to make the score 37-0 Vikings.
The fourth quarter would go to a running clock situation because of the over 35 point differential in score. The game would feature one more score from Petersburg on a 3 yard touchdown run with 7:24 left in the game. Both teams would go scoreless the rest of the game and Petersburg would win the contest by the final score of 43-0.
