PETERSBURG – The Mt. Lions traveled to “AA” Petersburg last Friday October 26th. The Vikings scored early and often and cruised to a home victory over Tucker County by the final score of 52-20.
The home team scored first with 10:01 left in the first quarter, Petersburg would dive in from 1 yard out. The PAT attempt was no good to make the score 6-0 Vikings. Tucker County failed to sustain a drive on their next possession. Petersburg then got on the scoreboard again on a 15 yard touchdown pass. The PAT was no good to push the Vikings lead to 12-0 with 40 seconds left in the first quarter. Petersburg would strike again in the second quarter on a 62 yard touchdown pass with 10:57 left in the second. The PAT kick was good to make the score 19-0 Petersburg. The Mt. Lions offense continued to struggle and the Vikings got the ball back. Petersburg wasted no time on offense as they scored on a 30 yard touchdown run with 7:49 left in the second. The PAT kick was good to push the score to 26-0 Petersburg. The home team then added a 59 yard touchdown pass with 4:53 left in the first half. Petersburg would then score with 50 seconds left in the second on a 67 yard touchdown pass to make the halftime score 40-0 Vikings.
The third quarter started with another Petersburg score on a 5 yard touchdown pass with 9:20 left in the third quarter. The PAT failed to make the score 46-0 Petersburg. Tucker County then got on the scoreboard late in the third quarter off a 16 yard touchdown pass from Liam Hood to Ben Callaway with 2:37 left in the third. The PAT kick was good by Callaway to put the score to 46-7 Vikings. The Mt. Lions capped a drive early in the fourth quarter on a 2 yard touchdown run by Cole Rapp. The PAT kick was good to make the score 46-14 Petersburg with 7:45 left in the game. The Vikings answered back on their next drive on a 23 yard touchdown run with 7:06 left in the fourth. The PAT failed to push the score to 52-14 Petersburg. Tucker County would add a score with 4:57 left in the contest when Liam Hood connected with Gariet Pennington on a 54 yard touchdown pass. The PAT failed end the scoring for the night to make the final score 52-20 Petersburg.
Liam Hood led Tucker County with 8 of 22 passing for 157 yards and Ben Callaway had 3 receptions for 67 yards receiving. Cole Rapp would add 53 yards rushing on 13 carries. Petersburg was led by Jacob Hartman with 329 yards passing. Petersburg outgained Tucker County in total offense 565 to 243.
