PARSONS – The Mt. Lions Football team hosted Southern, MD last Friday October 15th. The game was tied 6-6 after three quarters and then the visiting Rams outscored the Mt. Lions 22-0 in the fourth quarter to suffer the loss by the final score of 28-6.
Tucker County won the coin toss and the Mt. Lions deferred their option until the second half. This gave the ball to Southern to start the game. The Tucker County defense then stopped the Rams offense on a 4th and inches at midfield. The Mt. Lions offense could not move the ball and they were forced to punt. Southern then blocked the ensuing punt to give the Rams the ball at the Tucker County 45. Southern was unable to move the ball and was forced to punt. Tucker County was also unable to move the ball giving the ball back to Southern late in the first quarter. The Rams then put together a drive at the end of the first quarter, but the first quarter would end with the score tied 0-0. Southern then capped off the drive early in the second quarter on a 25 yard touchdown run with 11:25 left in the second. The PAT was no good to make the score 6-0 Southern. The Mt. Lions then answered with a drive of their own. Tucker County then scored on a 4th and 19 play as Ethan Rosenau connected with Racer Channell on a 30 yard touchdown pass. The 2 point conversion failed to tie the game 6-6 with 5:14 left in the second quarter. The rest of the second quarter each team exchanged fumbles as Southern lost 2 fumbles and Tucker County lost 2 fumbles. The second quarter ended with the score the same at the half 6-6.
The Mt. Lions got the ball to start the third quarter and the offense went to work. Tucker County drove the ball down to the Southern 27 yard line, but the drive stalled there to give the Rams the ball with 9:39 left in the third. Southern then would turn the ball over on a fumble recovered by Wesley Strawderman. Tucker County could not capitalize on the turnover and were forced to punt the ball back to the Rams. Southern then drove the ball down to the Mt. Lions 13, but the Rams could not convert on a 4th down to give the ball back to Tucker County. The Mt. Lions could not move the ball and were forced to punt again. The third quarter ended with the score tied at 6-6. Southern then broke the tie with a 75 yard touchdown run with 10:16 left in the fourth quarter. The PAT conversion was good to make the score 14-6 Rams. The Mt. Lions then could not sustain their drive as they turned the ball over on downs. Southern would then strike again on a 11 yard touchdown run. The 2 point conversion was good to push the score to 22-6 Southern with 3:01 left in the contest. The Mt. Lions then turned the ball over on an interception and the Rams punched in a touchdown from 1 yard out with 34 seconds remaining. The PAT conversion was no good to make the final score 28-6 Southern.
Tucker County was led in passing by Ethan Rosenau who ended the night 11 of 30 passing for 182 yards. The Mt. Lions Racer Channel collected 4 receptions for 82 yards and Maddox Anderson caught 4 passes for a total of 80 yards. Tucker County’s Jared Reall chipped in with 13 carries for 49 yards rushing. Dom Mullenax led the Mt. Lions on defense with 8 tackles, while Jared Reall and Wesley Strawderman added 7 tackles each on defense for Tucker County.
