FRANKLIN – The Mt. Lions traveled to Pendleton County for a road contest last Friday October 21st. Tucker County trailed 14-0 at the half and fell in the contest by the final score of 26-6.
Tucker County won the toss and deferred their option until the second half. Pendleton County received the opening kick and put together a drive that covers 65 yards in 6 plays. The drive was capped off on a 6 yard touchdown run with 10:28 left in the first quarter. The PAT was good to give the Wildcats an 8-0 lead. The Mt. Lions failed to move the ball on their first possession and had to punt the ball back to Pendleton County with 8 minutes left in the first quarter. The home standing Wildcats were unable to sustain a drive and had to punt the ball to Tucker County. The Mt. Lions fumbled the punt and Pendleton County recovered on the Tucker County 20 yard line. The Tucker County defense made a stand as they kept the Wildcats out of the end zone and the Mt. Lions got the ball back after a failed fourth down play by Pendleton County. Tucker County picked up a first down, but the Mt. Lions fumbled the ball and the Wildcats recovered. On the very next play Pendleton County fumbled the ball and Tucker County recovered on their own 41. Both teams failed to sustain drive the rest of the first quarter and the score remained 8-0 Pendleton County after one quarter of play.
Pendleton County put together a drive to start the second quarter, but the drive stalled at the Tucker County 44 and the Wildcats punted the ball back to the Mt. Lions. Tucker County again failed to move the ball and punted the ball back to Pendleton County. The Wildcats then needed just 2 plays to capitalize with a 57 yard touchdown pass with 1:50 left in the second quarter. The PAT failed to make the score 14-0 Pendleton County. Tucker County then picked up one first down before they had to punt the ball back to Pendleton County and the Wildcats went into the locker room with the lead at the half 14-0.
In the third quarter neither team could sustain a drive and the score remained the same after three quarters 14-0 Pendleton County. The Wildcats would strike again with 9:41 left in the fourth quarter on a touchdown run. The PAT attempt failed to put the score at 20-0 Pendleton County. Tucker County moved the ball on their next possession down inside the Pendleton County 20 yard line. However, the Mt. Lions could not get the ball into the end zone as they turned the ball over on downs. The Wildcat then put together another drive that was capped off on a 49 yard touchdown run. The PAT failed to make the score 26-0 with 3:46 left in the game. Tucker County then drove the ball 60 yards on 8 plays to score on a Luke Poling 4 yard touchdown run with 1:09 left in the contest. The PAT failed and the game ended with the final score of 26-6 Pendleton County.
Luke Poling led the Mt. Lions with 9 of 16 passing for 87 yards and 14 carries for 31 yards rushing. Jameson Hardy finished with 3 receptions for 33 yards and Cole Rapp had 2 catches for 32 yards. Pendleton County was Luke Cooper with 201 yards rushing and 145 yards rushing. The Wildcats outgained the Mt. Lions in total yards 363 to 135.
