HAMBLETON – The Lady Mt. Lions had 2 games postponed this past week due to the winter weather. The weather did clear up in time for Tucker County to play host to Class “AA” #5 Ranked Lincoln on Saturday February 2nd. The Lady Mt. Lions got down early and Tucker County could not complete the comeback on Senior Night and fell in the contest 74-63.
The Lady Cougars came out firing on all cylinders as they led after one quarter of play 26-14. Lincoln would outscore Tucker County came back in the second quarter and kept the score within 8 until late in the second. When the second quarter ended Tucker County was outscored 17-14 to push the visiting Lady Cougars lead to 43-28 at the halftime intermission.
Lincoln controlled the third with an 18-14 advantage to make the score 61-42 Lincoln after three quarters of play. The Lady Mt. Lions fought back in the final quarter as they cut the Lady Cougars lead down to 10 with 3 minutes to play in the game. Tucker County could not complete the comeback as they outscored Lincoln 21-13 in the fourth quarter, but the Lady Cougars would get the road victory by the final score of 74-63.
Terra Kuhn led Tucker County with 18 points, 11 rebounds and Riley Evans added 14 points for the Lady Mt. Lions. London Hood recorded 10 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists, 5 steals and McKinley Murphy chipped in with 9 points, 4 assists, 4 steals and Aliyah Plum collected 6 rebounds for Tucker County in the loss.
Tucker County will return to action tonight February 6th at Moorefield for a Varsity only contest at 6:30pm. The Lady Mt. Lions will finish out the week at home on Friday February 8th against Petersburg with JV action starting at 6pm. Tucker County will then finish out the regular season with a home game against Frankfort on February 11th and then an away game at Pocahontas County on February 13th.
