TUCKER COUNTY GIRLS’ BASKETBALL WIN SECTIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

KEYSER – The Lady Mt. Lions traveled to Keyser High School for the Sectional Final matchup with East Hardy on February 22nd.  Tucker County outscored the Lady Cougars 39-9 after the first quarter to win the game and capture the Sectional Championship by the final score of 50-19.

 

The first quarter was competitive as both teams battled as the score was 11-10 Lady Mt. Lions after one quarter.  Tucker County then clamped down on defense as they held East Hardy to just 2 points in the second quarter.  The Lady Mt. Lions scored 11 points to push their lead to 22-12 at the halftime break.

 

The third quarter was also controlled by Tucker County as they outscored the Lady Cougars 14-5 in the third to make the score 36-17 to start the fourth.  In the fourth quarter the Lady Mt. Lions continued to pull away as the defense again stepped up to hold East Hardy to 2 points in the quarter.  Tucker County would score 14 points in the final quarter to put the final score to 50-19.

 

Raven Matthews led the Lady Mt. Lions in scoring with 20 points, 21 rebounds and Katie Hicks added 8 points, 5 assists.  Makenna Evans chipped in with 6 points for Tucker County in the win.

 

Tucker County(18-5) were scheduled to host Pendleton County in the Regional Co-Final on Tuesday February 27th.  The winner of the Regional Co-Final will qualify for the WV State Girls’ Basketball Tournament on March 6th in Charleston.  For more info go to TuckerCountySports.Com.
