HAMBLETON – The Lady Mt. Lions started the week at home against Notre Dame on Tuesday February 3rd. Tucker County used a big second half to pull away from the Lady Irish at home and get the 41-29 win.
Both teams struggled on offense in the first quarter as the score was 4-2 Notre Dame after one. The second quarter did not show much more offense for both teams as the Lady Mt. Lions outscored the Lady Irish 10-8 in the second to tie the game at 12-12 after two quarters.
Tucker County took a slim advantage in the third as they outpaced Notre Dame 16-13 to put the Lady Mt. Lions up after three 28-25. The defense for Tucker County picked up the pace in the fourth to produce some steals and the Lady Mt. Lions pulled away from Notre Dame to pick up the 41-29 win at home.
Elizabeth Nichols led Tucker County with 13 points, 7 rebounds and Aiyana Kachmarek finished with 8 points, 6 rebounds. Sydney Nestor added 6 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists – Madison Mullenax chipped in 6 points for the Lady Mt. Lions and Olivia Miller collected 8 rebounds.
FRANKLIN – The Tucker County Girls’ traveled to Pendleton County on Friday February 6th for a Varsity only contest. The Lady Mt. Lions jumped out to a fast start and never looked back as they cruised to a 65-33 road victory.
The visiting Lady Mt. Lions started the game hot and raced to a 17-6 lead after one. In the second quarter the Tucker County defense flexed their muscle and held the home standing Lady Wildcats scoreless in the second quarter to give the Lady Mt. Lions a commanding 31-6 halftime lead.
Pendleton County got their offense going in the third, but they still could not slow down Tucker County as the visiting team outscored the Lady Wildcats 20-15 in the third to extend the lead to 52-21 after three. The reserve players finished the game for Tucker County to pick up the PVC conference win by the final score of 65-33.
Madison Mullenax led the Lady Mt. Lions with 16 points, 9 rebounds and Aiyana Kachmarek added 11 points, 10 rebounds. Elizabeth Nichols and Sydney Nestor finished with 11 points for Tucker County. Nestor also had 4 steals and Nichols dished out 4 assists.
MILL CREEK – The Lady Mt. Lions finished out the busy week at Tygarts Valley on Saturday February 7th. Tucker County fought off a great Bulldogs student section to run past the Lady Bulldogs for a 69-24 win.
Tucker County scored 15 points in the first quarter and held Tygarts Valley to just 6 points to lead after one 15-6. The Lady Mt. Lions extended their lead in the second period as they outpaced the Lady Bulldogs 18-8 to lead at the half 33-14.
Tucker County then exploded for 21 points in the third and held Tygarts Valley to just 5 points in the quarter to put the game out of reach after three 54-19. The reserve players finished the game for the Lady Mt. Lions and they picked up the PVC conference road victory 69-24.
Sydney Nestor led Tucker County with 18 points, 7 rebounds, 4 steals while Elizabeth Nichols finished with 12 points. Madison Reall added 9 points for the Lady Mt. Lions in the victory. The Tucker County Girls’ JV team won the first contest of the night 53-12.
Tucker County(15-2) will travel to Moorefield tonight February 11th and then they will host Petersburg on Friday February 13th with the JV game starting at 5:45pm and the Varsity game will follow.
