BAKER – The Lady Mt. Lions traveled down the new section of Corridor H to East Hardy on Monday Jan 13th. This game would go to the visitors as Tucker County pulled away for a 47-25 win.
Both teams struggled on offense as the pace was slow and the Lady Mt. Lions held a 9-5 lead after the first quarter of play. Tucker County outscored East Hardy 9-6 in the second quarter to take an 18-11 lead into the half. In the third quarter the Lady Mt. Lions got their offense going as they scored 13 points in the quarter while holding the Lady Cougars to just 3 points to take a commanding 31-14 lead after three. Tucker County outscored the host team in the fourth to get the win 47-25.
Aiyana Kachmarek led Tucker County with 14 points, 8 rebounds and 8 blocks. Bekah Simmons added 13 points and Madison Mullenax finished with 9 points for the Lady Mt. Lions. The Tucker County JV team picked up the win also 58-10.
HAMBLETON – Tucker County hosted Pendleton County the very next night Jan 14th. The Lady Mt. Lions exploded in the first half and picked up the win at home over the Lady Wildcats 58-30.
In the first quarter both teams came out on fire, but Tucker County finished off the quarter with a big run to take an early 20-9 advantage after one. The Lady Mt. Lions defense would step up in the second quarter as they held the Lady Wildcats to just 4 points in the quarter. Tucker County scored 14 points in the second to take a 34-13 halftime lead. Pendleton County fought back in the third quarter as they outscored the host 11-4 in the third to cut the lead to 38-24. The final quarter belonged to the Lady Mt. Lions as they fired in 20 points in the fourth to get the victory 50-38.
Stephanie Betler and Elizabeth Nichols led Tucker County with 14 points each. Aiyana Kachmarek added 10 points and Mariah Bowley scored 8 points for Tucker County. Betler also had 5 rebounds, 5 steals, 4 assists and Savannah Ambrose finished with 7 rebounds and 7 blocks. The Lady Mt. Lions JV team also won 46-18.
CLARKSBURG – The Lady Mt. Lions finished out the week with a varsity only game at Notre Dame on Thursday Jan 16th.
Tucker County came out strong with 18 points in the first quarter to lead after one 18-10. The Lady Mt. Lions extended the lead in the second as they held the Irish to just 3 points and led at the half 33-13. The defense for Tucker County continued in the third quarter as the home team only scored 5 points and the Lady Mt. Lions led 47-18 after three. In the fourth quarter Tucker County reserve players finished the game to give the Lady Mt. Lions the road victory 51-26.
Aiyana Kachmarek led Tucker County with 10 points, 5 rebounds and Madison Mullenax added 9 points, 6 steals. Bekah Simmons finished with 8 points, 7 rebounds, 6 steals and Savannah Ambrose scored 8 points and had 8 rebounds, 4 blocks. Stephanie Betler added 5 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists.
