- MARYS – The Lady Mt. Lions Basketball team traveled to St. Marys to compete in the St. Marys Invitational Tournament on Thursday January 20th against Class “A” #2 Cameron. Tucker County got behind early and the fourth quarter rally fell short as the Lady Mt. Lions fell in the contest by the score of 48-45.
Cameron jumped out to an 8-0 lead to start the game and the Lady Dragons led Tucker County after one quarter 15-5.
The Lady Mt. Lions fought back in the second quarter, but the scoring was 13-13 in the period to make the halftime score 28-18.
Tucker County cut into the Cameron lead in the third quarter as the Lady Mt. Lions edged Cameron in scoring in the third 12-10 to put the score to 38-30 after three. Tucker County won the fourth quarter 15-10, but Cameron held off the Lady Mt. Lions rally to capture the victory 48-45.
Macy Helmick led Tucker County with 16 points, 5 rebounds and Kadie Colebank added 12 points, 12 rebounds. Brylee Wetzel chipped in with 6 points in the Lady Mt. Lions loss.
- MARYS – The Tucker County Girls’ Basketball team returned to St, Marys on Saturday January 22nd for a Consolation game in the St. Marys Invitational against Ritchie County. The Lady Mt. Lions struggled to score throughout the game and they fell in the contest 50-36.
The first quarter belonged to the Lady Rebels as Ritchie County led after one quarter by a slim margin 11-8. Ritchie County then outscored Tucker County 14-7 in the second quarter to make the score at the halftime break 25-14 Ritchie County.
The Lady Mt. Lions chipped away at the Lady Rebels lead in the third as Tucker County edged Ritchie County 12-11 in scoring to put the score to 36-27. In the fourth the Lady Mt. Lions made a couple runs, but Ritchie County held off a comeback. Tucker County fell in the game 50-36
Kadie Colebank led the Lady Mt. Lions in scoring with 14 points, 17 rebounds and Macy Helmick added 7 points for the Lady Mt. Lions in the win. Jayden Kuhn chipped in with 8 points for Tucker County.
Tucker County(10-4) will return to action Friday January 28th at home against Pocahontas County. The JV game will start at 5:45pm with the Varsity game to follow. For more info go to TuckerCountySports.Com.
