TUCKER COUNTY GIRLS’ GET WINS OVER PENDLETON AND POCAHONTAS

FRANKLIN – The Lady Mt. Lions traveled to Pendleton County on Wednesday January 16th for a PVC conference game against the Lady Wildcats. Tucker County exploded to start the game and never looked back in route to a convincing 101-33 victory.

The Lady Mt. Lions forced turnovers in the first quarter and took control of the game as Tucker County led after one quarter 31-4. The second quarter showed more defensive domination by the visiting Lady Mt. Lions as they outscored Pendleton County 25-9 to make the score 56-13 Tucker County at the halftime intermission.

The third quarter continued with the Tucker County offense as the Lady Mt. Lions led at the end of the third 82-28. Reserve players for Tucker County finished the game as they outpaced the Lady Wildcats Girls’ Basketball team 19-5 in the final frame to give the Lady Mt. Lions the road win 101-33.

Tucker County was led in scoring by Riley Evans with 24 points and McKinley Murphy added 17 points, 5 assists. Katie Surguy had 15 points, 4 assists for the Lady Mt. Lions and Terra Kuhn chipped in with 14 points, 6 rebounds. London Hood collected a team high 5 steals for Tucker County in the victory. The Lady Mt. Lions JV team also won 49-22.


HAMBLETON – Tucker County hosted #6 Pocahontas County last Friday January 18th. The Lady Mt. Lions jumped out to an early lead and led start to finish in route to a 63-49 win.

In the first quarter Tucker County’s Riley Evans hit 3 shots from three point territory and Terra Kuhn scored 8 points to help Tucker County build a 17-9 lead after one quarter of play. The Lady Mt. Lions extended their lead in the third as they outscored the Lady Warriors 16-13 in the period to make the score 33-22 Tucker County at the half.

The Lady Mt. Lions then picked up the offense in the third quarter as they outshot Pocahontas County 23-14 to push the Tucker County lead to 56-36 after three quarters. The Lady Warriors would cut into the Lady Mt. Lions lead in the fourth as Tucker County fought, but Tucker County got the victory by the final score of 63-49.

Terra Kuhn led the Lady Mt. Lions with 19 points, 13 rebounds and Riley Evans followed with 18 points, 4 assists. McKinley Murphy added 13 points, 3 steals for Tucker County and Aliyah Plum collected 5 rebounds in the win for the Lady Mt. Lions. The Tucker County JV team got the victory in the first game by the final score of 47-44.

Tucker County will return to action tonight January 23rd at East Hardy for a varsity only contest at 6pm. The Lady Mt. Lions will then host Notre Dame on Friday January 25th at 5:45pm for a varsity only contest. Tucker County also will play host to Wheeling Central on Saturday January 26th with action starting at 12pm. For more info go to TuckerCountySports.Com.
