ELKINS – The Lady Mt. Lions opened postseason play on Wednesday February 25th at Elkins High School against PVC rival Tygarts Valley. Tucker County jumped out to a big lead and never looked back as they cruised to victory over the Lady Bulldogs by the final score of 89-13.
Tygarts Valley tried to keep pace with the #3 team in the state, but was unable to keep up as the Lady Mt. Lions led after one quarter 16-9. The Lady Bulldogs then had trouble scoring in the second period as they managed to get just 1 field goal and Tucker County outscored Tygarts Valley 18-2 to lead at the half 34-11.
Then things went from bad to worse for the Lady Bulldogs as the Lady Mt. Lions defense stayed constant and they outpaced Tygarts Valley 25-2 in the third to lead 59-13 after three. Tucker County then flexed more muscle in the fourth quarter as the reserve players came into the game and outscored the Lady Bulldogs 30-0 in the final quarter to get the win for Tucker County 89-13.
Sydney Nestor led Tucker County with 23 points, 4 steaks and Elizabeth Nichols had 19 points, 5 assists, 3 steals. Madison Reall added 7 points and Olivia Miller finished with 7 points, 7 rebounds for Tucker County.
ELKINS – Tucker County faced off against Notre Dame on Friday February 27th at Elkins High School for the Sectional Championship. The Lady Mt. Lions put on another defensive display as they captured the victory 54-28.
Tucker County came out strong as they led 7-0 to start the game and continued to lead after one quarter 13-3. Notre Dame fought back in the second, but the Lady Mt. Lions outscored the Lady Irish 11-9 in the second to take a 24-12 lead into the half.
Tucker County had a 16-9 advantage in the third to extend the lead to 19 points 40-21 after three. In the fourth quarter the Lady Mt. Lions pulled away further as they outpaced Notre Dame 14-7 to pick up the Sectional Crown by the final score of 54-28.
Elizabeth Nichols led Tucker County with 17 points, 8 rebounds and Sydney Nestor added 13 points, 5 boards. Aiyana Kachmarek added 11 points, 9 rebounds and Olivia Miller collected 10 rebounds for the Lady Mt. Lions in the win. Tucker County(18-2) will now host the Regional Final game against Pendleton County on Thursday March 5th at 7pm.
