LOST CREEK – The Lady Mt. Lions traveled to South Harrison on Wednesday January 15th. Tucker County expanded on their halftime lead in the third quarter and the Lady Mt. Lions pulled away for good in the fourth as they won the game 65-46.
Tucker County got off to a quick start and built a 8 point lead, but the Lady Hawks fought back late in the quarter to make the score 17-15 Tucker County after one quarter of play. The second quarter was even as both teams traded baskets with the Lady Mt. Lions taking a 9-7 advantage in the quarter to make the halftime score 26-22 Tucker County.
The third quarter belonged to the Lady Mt. Lions 16-10 to push the Tucker County lead to 42-32 after three quarters. In the fourth quarter the Lady Mt. Lions pulled away for good as they dominated South Harrison 23-14 in the period to give Tucker County the 65-46 win.
London Hood and Terra Kuhn led Tucker County in scoring with 22 points each. Kadie Colebank added 11 points, 12 rebounds, 4 blocks. Hood pulled down 6 rebounds, dished out 8 assists and collected 6 steals for Tucker County. Terra Kuhn collected 5 rebounds and Kuhn surpassed 1,000 points in her Tucker County career with the 22 points scored. Terra became the 13th girl in Tucker County Basketball history to surpass 1,000 points. The Lady Mt. Lions JV team got the win 43-22.
DUNMORE – The Tucker County Girls’ Basketball team traveled to Pocahontas County on Friday January 17th. The Lady Warriors and Lady Mt. Lions battled back and forth the whole contest, but Pocahontas County held on for the 47-45 victory.
The homestanding Lady Warriors started the game with a 6-0 run, but the Lady Mt. Lions fought back to tie the game at 8-8 midway through the first. Pocahontas County then surged ahead late in the first quarter to lead Tucker County after one 13-8. The visiting Lady Mt. Lions won the second quarter with a 14-10 advantage to make the halftime score 23-22 Pocahontas County.
The third quarter was played close as the Lady Warriors edged the Lady Mt. Lions 10-9 in the third to put the score to 36-31 Pocahontas County after three. The fourth quarter was a battle as both teams had leads late in the game. Tucker County led by 1 with 2 minutes left in the contest, but the Lady Warriors surged with under 1 minute to play. The Mt. Lions trailed by 1 point with less than 20 seconds left in the game, but Tucker County could not complete the comeback on the road as they fell 47-45.
London Hood led Tucker County with 19 points, 6 rebounds, 5 steals and Kadie Colebank added 14 points, 8 rebounds, 4 blocks for the Lady Mt. Lions in the loss. Terra Kuhn and Jessi Daniels chipped in with 6 points each for Tucker County. The Tucker County JV team got the win over Pocahontas County 34-30.
The Lady Mt. Lions(7-4) will return to action tonight Wednesday January 22nd at East Hardy. Tucker County will then host Bishop-Walsh, MD for a varsity only contest at 5:45pm on Friday January 24th.
