GLENVILLE – The Lady Mt. Lions traveled to Glenville State College on Monday December 12th to play in the Class “A” IOGA Tournament. Tucker County took to the court against #1 Defending State Champions, Gilmer County in the first round game. The Lady Mt. Lions turned in a great fourth quarter to pick up the big win 55-46.
Gilmer County jumped out to an early lead as they outpaced Tucker County in the first quarter to led 13-8 after one. Tucker County continued to struggle in the second quarter as the Lady Titans outscored Tucker County 11-9 in the second quarter as Gilmer County led at the half 24-17.
The Lady Mt. Lions turned up the defense in the third quarter as Tucker County held Gilmer County to just 4 points in the third and the Lady Mt. Lions scored 10 points to cut the Lady Titans lead to 1 point at 28-27 after three. The defense continued for Tucker County in the fourth quarter as Gilmer County was unable to get their offense back on track and Tucker County outpaced the Lady Titans 28-16 in the fourth to pick up the big win 55-46.
Sydney Nestor led Tucker County with 18 points, 7 rebounds and Terra Kuhn added 12 points. Sydney Moore had 10 points and 8 rebounds also for Tucker County in the win.
HAMBLETON – The Tucker County Girls’ hosted Moorefield on Wednesday December 14th in a PVC Conference game. The Lady Mt. Lions turned a 5 point halftime lead into a 68-40 blowout win.
Tucker County got off to a good start as they led after one quarter 18-10. Moorefield fought back in the second quarter as they outscored the Lady Mt. Lions 16-13 in the second to make the halftime score 31-26.
Tucker County took the game back under control in the third with a 16-9 scoring advantage to lead 47-35. Moorefield then ran out of gas in the fourth as Tucker County exploded for a 21 points and held the Lady Yellowjackets to 5 points to pick up the blowout win at home 68-40.
Terra Kuhn led the Lady Mt. Lions with 21 points, 5 rebounds and Sydney Nestor added 18 points, 12 rebounds. Elizabeth Nichols chipped in with a double, double as she had 11 points and 10 rebounds.
GLENVILLE – The Lady Mt. Lions traveled back to Glenville State College on Saturday December 17th for the Championship game in the Class “A” IOGA Tournament against Wheeling Central. Tucker County used a big second quarter to gain a double digit lead and then they held off a Maroon Knights comeback to get the victory 40-36.
The Lady Mt. Lions held the advantage after one quarter 13-10. Tucker County then turned up the defense as they held Wheeling Central to just 3 points in the second and Tucker County scored 12 points. Tucker County led at the half 25-13.
Tucker County struggled to score in the third quarter as Wheeling Central outpaced the Lady Mt. Lions 12-2 in the third to make the score 27-25 Tucker County after three. In the fourth quarter both teams battled hard, but Tucker County made their shots down the stretch to pick up the victory 40-36.
Terra Kuhn led Tucker County with 12 points and Sydney Nestor added 10 points, 8 rebounds. Elizabeth Nichols had 9 points and 7 rebounds also for the Lady Mt. Lions in the win. The 3-0 week for Tucker County pushed them to the #1 ranking in the Class “A” Coaches Poll this week. The top 5 in the ranking is as follows: #2-Gilmer County, #3-Summers County, #4-Huntington St. Joes, #5-Wheeling Central.
