The Tucker County High School Golf Team had a strong week of competition, highlighted by a first-place finish and continued dominance on their home course.
On Tuesday, the team traveled to Glenville Golf Club for a nine-hole match hosted by Gilmer County High School, where they secured a third-place team finish. Junior Nate Davis led the team with a third-place individual finish, followed closely by fellow junior Drew Simmons, who placed seventh. Freshman Collin Pitzer had one of his best showings of the season, coming in ninth overall.
The momentum carried into Wednesday, when the Mountain Lions returned home to Holly Meadows Golf Course. In what proved to be their best round of the season, Tucker County finished first place with a team score of 126, using the top three individual scores.
Davis and Simmons continued their impressive play, each shooting a career-best score of 37 to earn Co-Low Medalist honors. Pitzer again performed well, placing seventh with a 52, and sophomore Carter Wilt rounded out the top ten with a 54, securing tenth place.
The match marked Tucker County’s final contest at Holly Meadows for the season, where the team finishes a perfect 3-0 on their home turf.
Looking ahead, the team will shift their focus to Canaan Valley Resort Golf Club, where they will host three more home matches in September. Canaan Valley will also serve as the regional tournament site in October, giving the team valuable experience on the challenging course.
The team’s next match will be held on Monday, September 8 at Valley View Golf Course in Moorefield.
