This past week, the Tucker County High School golf team hit the road for a trio of competitive matches, showing both resilience and improvement throughout.
The Mountain Lions opened the week at Clarksburg Country Club in a 9-hole match hosted by Notre Dame High School, facing off against five other teams under tough course conditions. Despite the challenges, Tucker County battled hard and secured a solid third-place team finish.
Junior Drew Simmons led the way for the team, carding a 46 and earning fifth place overall individually.
On Tuesday, the team traveled to Morgantown to compete at The Pines Country Club in a match hosted by Trinity Christian. Once again, the Mountain Lions took third place as a team, with strong individual performances from juniors Nate Davis and Drew Simmons, who finished third and fourth, respectively.
The week concluded with a head-to-head home match on Thursday at Holly Meadows Golf Course against the region’s top-ranked team, Tygarts Valley High School. Tucker County showed tremendous growth across the board, delivering a clutch performance that led to a statement victory on home turf.
Junior Nate Davis earned low medalist honors, while teammate Drew Simmons continued his consistent play with a second-place finish. Sophomore Carter Wilt had a breakout round, posting his best score of the season and finishing sixth overall, narrowly missing the top five.
“This was a great week for us,” said Coach Dillard. “We saw marked improvement in each match, and our players are stepping up at the right time. I’m proud of their focus and determination.”
