Tucker County High School Baseball falls in Sectionals

PARSONS – The Mt. Lions Baseball team hosted Paw Paw in the first round of sectional play on Monday May 8th. Tucker County lost by the final score of 4-1.


The visiting Pirates took the lead early in the first inning as they led 2-0 after one inning. Paw Paw scored 2 more runs in the second inning. Tucker County was unable to complete the comeback as they managed to score one run off a Justin Fike hit. Fike led Tucker County with a 2 for 3 performance batting. Cameron Wamsley, Garrett Carrico and Christian Purnell also added one hit each in the contest for Tucker County. Michael Gherman took the loss for the Mt. Lions as he went all 7 innings.

MOOREFIELD – Tucker County traveled to Moorefield for a Sectional elimination game on Wednesday May 10th. The Mt. Lions could not get the offense going and could not slow down the Yellowjackets as Moorefield took the game 11-1.

Moorefield took the lead for good as they scored 6 runs in the second inning to put the game out of reach. Cameron Wamsley took the loss for the Mt. Lions on the mound. Wamsley went 4 innings in the contest. Justin Purnell and Cameron Wamsley collected one hit each to lead Tucker County at the plate.

Tucker County ended the season with a 5-13 record. The final season stats for Tucker County are as follows: Justin Fike(.457), Christian Purnell(.417), Justin Purnell(.364), Michael Gherman(.326), Garrett Carrico(.245), Cameron Wamsley(.214), Josh Freeman(.200), Tyler Malone(.182), Shane Humphrey(.133), Gary Meloy(.095) – Kendall Gooden, Byron Gidley, Quinn Buckley and Zach Frymer did not record a hit.
