CAMP KIDD – The Cross Country Class “A” Region 2 Championship was help in Tucker County on Thursday October 20th at Camp Kidd. The yearly event is held to determine the qualifiers for the State Championship Meet next week at Cabell Midland. The top two finishing teams in Girls’ and Boys’ advance to the State Meet and the top ten individuals from Girls’ and Boys’ will qualify to advance to the State Meet next week.
In the Girls’ race Doddridge County’s Alexis Lamb dominated the event with time of 19:31.56, which was over 1 minute ahead of the second place finisher Katie Cottrill(20:49.15), also from Doddridge County. Trinity Junior Jenna Barnett(21:37.38) would take home 3rd place as Barnett was less than 4 seconds in front of Tucker County’s Katie Hicks who came across 4th with a time of 21:41.15. Rounding out the top 5 was Doddridge County’s Bailey Holden with a time of 21:46.99. Lady Mt. Lions freshman Addi Moats took 6th place overall with a time of 21:49.38 and Tucker County’s Erin Chambers placed 8th with a run of 22:19.16. This gave Tucker County 3 runners in the Top 10. Tucker County’s Hannah Hardy placed 16th with a time of 23:46.25 and Brianna Gooden of Tucker County placed 20th at a time of 226:05.28. The team race for 2nd place came down to just 5 points as Trinity edged the Lady Mt. Lions to take 2nd place. Doddridge County took 1st as a team as Doddridge County and Trinity advanced their teams to the State Meet with 1st and 2nd place finishes. The top 10 individual runners will advance to the State Meet, which means Katie Hicks, Addi Moats and Erin Chambers will run next week at the State Meet representing Tucker County. Girls’ Teams final placement: 1st-Doddridge County(28), 2nd-Trinity(46), 3rd-Tucker County(51).
Doddridge County’s Carter Sias took home the top spot in the Boys’ race with a time of 18:02.34. Evan McElwayne(18:50.81) of Notre Dame got 2nd and Josh Berke(19:13.00) of Doddridge County placed 3rd. A pair of Trinity runners Ethan Tomlinson(19:19.03) and Robert Kincaid(19:19.31) placed 4th and 5th. Tucker County’s freshman Cameron Judy took home a 6th place finish with a time of 19:28.28. Nate Ricottilli(20:12.28) of Tucker County placed 13th and Lynk Suesli(20:23.66) came across in 15th place. The Mt. Lions runners Alex Boyles(20:32.59) finished 17th and Allan Boyles(21:38.33) placed 26th. The Tucker County Boys’ had a good run in the last race as they captured 2nd place to advance as a team to the State Meet for the first time in several years. Doddridge County took 1st place as a team to sweep the Girls’ and Boys’ team events. Boys’ Teams final placement: 1st-Doddridge County(26), 2nd-Tucker County(55), 3rd-South Harrison(70), 4th-Notre Dame(70).
The Tucker County Girls’ and Boys’ Cross-Country runners that qualified for the State Meet will travel to Cabell Midland High School on Saturday October 29th for the State Championship Meet. Girls’ Class “A” race will begin at 12pm and the Class “A” Boys’ race will begin at 12:45pm. For more info go to TuckerCountySports.Com.
