TUCKER COUNTY SOFTBALL OPENS SEASON

CAMP KIDD – The Lady Mt. Lions Softball team opened the season with a home double header against Pocahontas County on Thursday April 5th.


In the first contest Lauren Cockerham went the distance for Tucker County on the mound. The Lady Mt. Lions scored its only run in the 1st inning when Cockerham stole home. Pocahontas County was up 11-6 in the 4th inning when Candy Cross, Gracie Filler and Lauren Cockerham scored on back to back base hits by Anna DiBacco and Dominique Meadows. Then Cross, Rachel Arbogast and Gracie Rapp scored in the 5th and 6th innings to cut the Lady Warriors lead to 14-9. In the 7th inning the Tucker County bats came alive again when DiBacco hit an inside the park home run. A walk by Meadows and base hits by Abigal Simmons and Cross the bases were loaded for the Lady Mt. Lions. Rachel Arbogast then singled in runs and Meadows had an RBI and Tucker County came up short to fall in the contest by the final score of 18-15.

In the second game of the evening Anna DiBacco pitched 1 and 1/3 inning in her first ever action on the mound. Lauren Cockerham came in for relief on the mound to finish the game that was shorted to 4 innings due to the time and the cold temperature. Gracie Filler and Cockerham scored for the Lady Mt. Lions in the first inning. Tucker County was down 8-2 in the 4th inning when Anna DiBacco and Dominque Meadows led off the inning with back to back doubles. Gracie Rapp followed up with a hit to drive in 2 RBI’s. Late in the inning with 2 outs Meadows singled to score Rachel Arbogast and Cockerham to end the scoring for Tucker County as the game was called and Tucker County fell in the contest 10-6. The Lady Mt. Lions were led in offense on the night by Meadows with 5 hits and DiBacco, Rapp and Cross with 3 hits each. Filler, Cockerham and Lauren McCrum had 2 hits each and Simmons and Arbogast had 1 hit each.

Tucker County will be back in action on Thursday as they travel to Notre Dame for a Doubleheader starting at 5pm. The Lady Mt. Lions will then host Tygarts Valley for a double header on Tuesday April 17th starting at 5pm at Camp Kidd. For more info and a schedule go to TuckerCountySports.Com.
