TUCKER COUNTY SOFTBALL START SEASON WITH NEW COACH

The Lady Mt. Lions Softball team will start the 2017 season with a new Head Coach. Former Assistant Coach Greg Hyre has taken over as the Head Coach this year after being an assistant coach the last two seasons. Hyre will also have assistant coach Dale Gainer joining him this season. The Tucker County Girls’ Softball look to improve this season as they return some players with experience.


This year’s team has 2 seniors that return with a great deal of experience. Coach Hyre talked about those 2 seniors saying, “We have 2 seniors that have played all 4 years and they both should be productive and those are Cameron Cummings and Melanie Adams.” This year’s team has 16 girls total which consist of 2 seniors, 4 juniors, 4 sophomores and 6 freshman. Players returning from last year that will make an immediate impact are Seniors, Melanie Adams and Cameron Cummings, Junior Dominque Meadows and Sophomores, McKinley Murphy and Lauren Cockerham, Freshman Maya Paul to name a few.

When ask about his experience as an assistant coach the last two years Hyre said, “We have worked hard the last few years and have thought the girls a lot, the girls have come a long ways, the girls we have had the last 2 years have progressed, and my assistant coach Dale Gainer has been coaching 40 years and he will make a difference in the kids.”

The schedule this year features 21 games total and 8 of those game will be at home at Camp Kidd Park outside of Parsons. The Lady Mt. Lions compete in the PVC Conference which is one of the top Conferences in the State. In the Conference and Region is teams such as Moorefield, East Hardy and Pendleton County which are the top programs in Softball year in and year out. When asking coach Hyre about the schedule he responded by saying, “These are some of the top teams in the state and it is going to be a challenge to play with them teams.” Come out and support these Lady’s as they open their season on the road at Keyser Thursday March 23rd at 6pm and Tucker County will have their first Home contest on April 3rd at 5pm.
