CAMP KIDD – The Lady Mt. Lions Softball hosted Keyser on Tuesday April 16th. Tucker County struggled to score in the contest as they fell by the score of 11-1.
Keyser started the game with 2 runs in the 1st inning to take an early 2-0 lead. The Lady Mt. Lions fought back in the 2nd inning to score 1 run to make the score 2-1 after 2 innings. The Golden Tornados then scored 3 runs in the 3rd inning to up the Keyser lead to 5-1. Keyser then would score 3 runs in the 4th inning and 3 runs in the 5th inning to capture the victory 11-1. Tucker County had 1 hit in the contest by Makenna Evans as she hit a triple to centerfield in the 2nd inning. Peyton Hicks took the loss in the circle for Tucker County and Brianna Gooden went to the circle for relief in pitching for the Lady Mt. Lions.
CAMP KIDD – Tucker County Softball hosted Petersburg on Wednesday April 17th. The Lady Mt. Lions would drop the game by the final score of 21-9.
The visiting Lady Vikings got off to a quick start as they scored 2 runs in the 1st inning to take a 2-0 lead after 1 inning. Petersburg then added 1 run in the 2nd inning and 1 run in the 3rd inning to increase their lead to 4-0 after 3 innings. In the 4th inning the Lady Vikings offense struck again as they netted 3 runs in the inning to make the score 7-0 after 4 innings of play. In the 6th inning Petersburg scored 1 run in the top of the inning, but Tucker County got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the 6th inning as they score 2 runs to put the score at 8-2 after 6 innings. Neither team would score in the 7th inning as they game ended with the final score of 8-2 Petersburg.
Ava Shaffer and Peyton Hicks led Tucker County at the plate as they each had 2 hits apiece. They both also had 1 double each in the contest. Addie Hicks and Brianna Gooden chipped in with 1 hit each for the Lady Mt. Lions in the loss. Brianna Gooden took the loss on the mound for Tucker County as she went 3 innings and Peyton Hicks entered the game in relief and went 4 innings.
CAMP KIDD – The Lady Mt. Lions hosted Preston for a doubleheader on Thursday April 18th. Tucker County would get the sweep as they took both games by the score of 12-7 and 16-1.
In Game 1 Preston got on the scoreboard first as they scored 2 runs in the top of the 1st inning to take an early 2-0 lead. The Lady Mt. Lions responded in the bottom of the 1st inning as they scored 3 runs to take the lead after 1 inning 3-2. Tucker County then added 2 runs in the 3rd inning to push their lead to 5-2 after 3 innings. The Lady Knights would score 3 runs in the top of the 4th inning to tie the game at 5-5. Once again the Lady Mt. Lions responded as they scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 4th to make the score 9-5. Tucker County then added 2 runs in the 5th and 1 run in the 6th inning to put the score at 12-5 after 6 innings. Preston would score 2 runs in the 7th, but that was not enough to extend the game as Tucker County got the win by the score of 12-7.
Peyton Hicks led the Lady Mt. Lions in the game as she collected 3 hits(1 triple, 1 double) and Ava Shaffer added 3 hits(2 doubles) in the Game 1 win. Sutton Pase also had 3 hits, while Makenna Evans and Rachel Felton had 1 triple each in the win. Addie Hicks chipped in with 1 hit for the Lady Mt. Lions.
In the second game Ava Shaffer tossed a 3 inning win, as she allowed just 2 hits in the circle for Tucker County. The Lady Mt. Lions got off to a quick start as they scored 4 runs in the 1st inning, 5 runs in the 2nd inning and 7 runs in the 3rd inning to end the game in 3 innings 16-1.
Peyton Hicks led the way at the plate for Tucker County as she had double to right field in the 2nd inning and an inside the park home run in the 3rd inning for her 2 hits. Ava Shaffer added 2 hits(1 double) for the Lady Mt. Lions and Sutton Pase collected 2 hits(1 double) in the Game 2 win. Addie Hicks and Makenna Evans also had 2 hits in the game, while Brianna Gooden and Bella Loucks had 1 hit each for Tucker County.
PHILIPPI – Tucker County ended the busy week with a road game at Philip Barbour on Friday April 19th. The Lady Mt. Lions struggled at the plate as they fell in the contest 11-1.
Tucker County got on the scoreboard first as they scored 1 run in the top of the 1st inning to lead early 1-0. The Lady Colts responded in the bottom of the 1st as they plated 4 runs to take the 4-1 lead after 1 inning. Phili Barbour then added 2 runs in the 2nd inning and 2 runs in the 3rd inning to make the score 8-1 after 3 innings. The Lady Colts would then add 3 runs in the 4th inning and Tucker County could not extend the game in the top of the 5th. The game then ended with the final score of 11-1 Philip Barbour.
Addie Hicks and Ava Shaffer led the Lady Mt. Lions with 1 double each in the contest. Katie Hicks, Rachel Felton and Peyton Hicks added 1 hit each for Tucker County in the loss. Brianna Gooden took the loss in the circle for Tucker County, while Peyton Hicks entered the game in relief.
