The Tucker Valley Middle School cheerleaders are no stranger to preparing pep rallies, spirit weeks or standing on the sidelines cheering for football and basketball games.
However, the 15-girl squad will be trying something new next month as they attend the first cheer competition ever in Tucker Valley history. The competition will take place at Preston High School on February 2 at 10am. The TVMS cheerleaders will compete in a 30 second technical cheer, which must be between 30 and 40 seconds in length and include two separate jumps. They also will compete with their 2 minute and 30 second routine. In the routine there is a mixture of stunting sequences, dancing and tumbling. Third-year coach, Dani Wilfong, said “The girls have been working extremely hard at practices to perfect the routine. We have three sixth graders, eight seventh graders and four eighth graders. I am very proud of all of them. It is going to be a real fun way to end our season together. I hope the community can come out and support the girls.”
The cheerleaders will be performing their competition cheer and routine for the public at Tucker County High School on January 26, 2019. It will take place during halftime of the Tucker Valley vs Davis Thomas boys JV game.
The Tucker Valley Cheerleaders are as follows: Laney Burns, Olivia Williams, Riley Rohrbaugh, Darrah Pennington, Avery Smith, Vanessa Shaffer, Marissa Judy, Carley Vandevender, Kennide Helmick, Sydney Lambert, Addie Hicks, Katie Hicks, Byrlee Wetzel. Caitlyn McCrum and Neveah Alexander.
