ROMNEY – The Wildcats Middle School Football team traveled to Romney Middle last Wednesday September 23rd. Tucker Valley fell in the contest by the final score of 20-14.
The game was a battle in the first quarter as neither team could score and the first quarter ended with the score still tied at 0-0. Tucker Valley and Romney scored touchdowns in the second quarter. Garrett Wilfong got into the endzone on a touchdown for the Wildcats in the second quarter to make the halftime score 6-6.
Romney would strike first in the third as they scored a touchdown to give the home team the lead 12-6. Tucker Valley then answered with a 57 yard touchdown run by Jared Reall. The 2 point conversion was good on a Sam Marks pass to Wilfong to make the score 14-12 Tucker Valley at the end of the third. In the fourth quarter Romney could not sustain their drive and they turned the ball over on downs with 4 minutes left in the game. The Wildcats could not sustain a drive and they were forced to punt the ball back to Romney. The Tucker Valley defense could not hold the lead as Romney scored a touchdown with 19 seconds left in the game. The 2 point conversion was good to give Romney the lead 20-14. Tucker Valley’s Marks then completed a pass to Marky Phillips, but Phillips was tackled after a 25 yard gain as time expired. Romney got the win by the final score of 20-14.
