PARSONS – The Wildcats Middle School Football team hosted Barbour County on Wednesday October 9th. Tucker Valley trailed for most of the game, but the Wildcats got the offense going in the fourth quarter to win the game by the final score of 22-16.
Tucker Valley won the coin toss and deferred their option until the second half. This gave the ball to Barbour County to start the game. Barbour County was forced to punt on their first possession. Tucker Valley then got the ball at the Barbour County 45. Then three straight incomplete passes by the Wildcats forced them to punt the ball back to Barbour County. The visitors then went to work on offense as they drove the ball 60 yards and scored on a 5 yard touchdown run. The 2 point conversion was good to make the score 8-0 Barbour County with 2:20 left in the first quarter. Tucker Valley would then be forced to punt again on offense after a penalty backed them up. Barbour County then started to drive again at the end of the first quarter with the score 8-0 Barbour County.
The second quarter started with Barbour County on offense. The visiting team then drove the ball deep into Wildcats territory. A Barbour County fumble was then recovered by Tucker Valley at the Wildcats 25 with 5:04 left in the second quarter. Tucker Valley was then forced to punt again after they were back up by penalty’s. The second quarter would end without either team reaching the endzone again to make the halftime score 8-0 Barbour County.
Tucker Valley recovered an attempted onside kick by Barbour County to start the third quarter at the Barbour County 48. The Wildcats then drove the ball down to the Barbour County 39, but a fumble by Tucker Valley was recovered by Barbour County with 7:49 left in the third quarter. Barbour County then was forced to punt on their possession, but they attempted a fake punt which failed. This gave Tucker Valley the ball back at the Wildcats 47 with 4:29 left in the third. Tucker Valley then got their offense moving as they marched 53 yards in 5 plays. The drive was capped off on a 25 yard touchdown reverse run by Ashton Lycliter. The 2 point conversion was good to make the score 8-8 with 1:07 left in the third quarter. The third quarter would then end with the score still tied 8-8.
Barbour County moved the ball at the start of the fourth quarter. The visitors drove the ball down to the Tucker Valley 29 yard line, but an interception by the Wildcats Garrett Wilfong at the Tucker Valley 6 yard line ended the Barbour County drive with 6:36 left in the fourth quarter. The Wildcats offense then went to work as they put together a 10 play 94 yard drive that was capped off on a Ethan Rosenau 1 yard touchdown run on 4th down. The 2 point conversion was good to give Tucker Valley a 16-8 lead with 1:11 left in the game. Barbour County then answered on the ensuing kickoff as they returned the kick 85 yards for a touchdown with 55 seconds left in the game. The 2 point conversion was good to tie the score again at 16-16. A short kick by Barbour County gave Tucker Valley the ball in good field position at their own 46. The Wildcats then moved the ball to the Barbour County 11. Then Maddox Anderson connected with Racer Channell for an 11 yard touchdown pass with 3 seconds left in the game. The 2 point conversion was no good to make the score 22-16 Tucker Valley. Barbour County then received the kick and time ran out to give Tucker Valley the comeback win by the final score of 22-16.
