MILL CREEK – The Tucker Valley Middle School Football team traveled to Tygarts Valley Middle for the last game of the season last Wednesday October 22nd. The visiting Wildcats scored 2 touchdowns in the first half and held the Bulldogs scoreless on the muddy field to get the win on the road 16-0.
Tucker Valley received the opening kick to start the game, but could not sustain the drive and Tygarts Valley took over on their own 33 yard line. The Bulldogs could not move the ball and were forced to punt the ball back to Tucker Valley. The Wildcats then threw an interception to turn the ball over, but Tygarts Valley fumbled the ball on the return and the Wildcats recovered to save the turnover. Tucker Valley would then score 5 plays later on a 34 yard touchdown run by Mason Johnson with 11 seconds in the first quarter. The 2 point conversion was good to give the Wildcats an 8-0 advantage.
On the ensuing kick the Bulldogs mishandled the ball and the football was recovered by Tucker Valley at midfield. The Wildcats offense would go to work on a 7 play drive that was capped off on a 30 yard touchdown run by Johnson. The 2 point conversion was good on a Cole Rapp run to make the score 16-0 Tucker Valley with 5:05 left in the first half. Neither team could sustain a drive the rest of the first half and the score remained 16-0 Wildcats at the half.
Tygarts Valley got the ball to start the third quarter. The Bulldog offense drove the ball to the Tucker Valley 34 yard line before they failed to convert on fourth down. The Wildcats then took over and marched the ball down to the Bulldog 28, but 3 plays for a loss and a penalty gave the ball back to the home team on a failed fourth down play at the end of the third quarter. The rain and the mud would then win the rest of the night as neither team could sustain a drive on offense the rest of the game to give Tucker Valley the win on the road 16-0.
Mason Johnson ended the game for Tucker Valley with 16 carries for 131 rushing and 3 receptions for 61 yards. Cole Rapp finished the game with 40 yards rushing on 6 carries.
